About the Museum

The National Vietnam War Museum was established in 1998 to create a national space for learning about the Vietnam War era and engaging people of all backgrounds and perspectives. Incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 1999, the museum is located on a 12-acre site in Mineral Wells, about 50 miles west of Fort Worth.

Guided by a Board of Directors and supported by a Board of Visitors and partnerships with veterans organizations, the museum is dedicated to telling an unbiased and comprehensive story of the Vietnam War. This includes the experiences of U.S. servicemen and women, civilian contractors, the Vietnamese people, and those on the home front.

Today, the campus features memorial gardens, historical artifacts, a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter display, CH-54 Sky crane, and a 20,000-square-foot main exhibit building, serving as a place of reflection, education, and remembrance.

Mission

To promote an understanding of the Vietnam Era, while honoring those who served.

For many Americans, Vietnamese, and others, the war in Vietnam was the defining event of their lives. It was a conflict that divided families and brought violence both to Vietnam and the U.S. Whether in uniform or not, everyone who lived through this period had a Vietnam experience. Despite its cultural and military importance, after more than 50 years, until now there has been no national venue dedicated to examining the legacy of the Vietnam War. The time has come to examine and understand this more divisive period in our history, to allow for reflection, resolution and healing.

Needs

At the National Vietnam War Museum, we’re building the next phase of a space that ensures the full story of the Vietnam War is preserved and shared for generations.

Our Phase II expansion will add 20,000 square feet of immersive galleries, ten new exhibits, a theater, and a Living History Kiosk to capture and share veterans’ firsthand stories—before they’re lost.

This project will transform how we educate, connect, and honor those impacted by the war. We’re inviting partners and donors to help us bring this vision to life and complete a place of national significance.

Your support helps ensure these stories are never forgotten.

Equity Statement

The National Vietnam War Museum is committed to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where all individuals feel welcome to learn, reflect, and engage. We strive to present a balanced and comprehensive history of the Vietnam War era that honors the diverse experiences of those who served, the Vietnamese people, and individuals on the home front with differing perspectives.

We are dedicated to ensuring equitable access to our programs, resources, and spaces by removing barriers to participation and actively engaging audiences of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. Through thoughtful interpretation, community partnerships, and ongoing learning, we aim to create opportunities for dialogue, understanding, and connection across cultures and viewpoints.

Our commitment to equity is rooted in the belief that sharing inclusive, honest histories strengthens communities and promotes greater empathy and understanding for future generations.
