In 2026, The Sandlot launched Everyone Belongs in the Game, our growing adaptive sports initiative designed to create free, inclusive opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to play, compete, connect, and experience the sense of belonging that comes through sports. Our first adaptive sports clinic brought athletes, families, coaches, volunteers, and community partners together for a day centered on access, inclusion, and fun, and it was only the beginning.
At the same time, we continue working toward an even bigger vision: The Sandbox, a universally designed sports and recreation complex where people of all abilities can participate, train, compete, and connect under one roof.
The Sandlot is growing from an organization that helps open doors to existing opportunities into one that also creates those opportunities ourselves. Through adaptive programming, financial assistance, strategic partnerships, and our long-term vision for The Sandbox, we’re working toward a North Texas community where ability never determines who gets to participate.

Founded with a focus on providing financial assistance to children pursuing athletic opportunities and sport-specific experiences, The Sandlot is expanding our reach to serve a broader community of individuals with disabilities. Today, our work includes financial assistance, adaptive sports programming, community partnerships, and the development of inclusive opportunities for children and adults.
As we grow, our purpose remains the same: removing barriers that can prevent people with disabilities from participating in the activities and experiences that help build confidence, friendships, independence, and lifelong skills.
We believe sports and recreation have the power to bring people together, and we’re working toward a future where more people, regardless of age or ability, have the opportunity to get in the game.
For people with physical and intellectual disabilities, access to sports and recreation can come with significant barriers, including cost, limited adaptive programming, specialized equipment, and facilities that were not designed with their needs in mind.
The Sandlot Children’s Charity works to remove those barriers. Historically, we have done that through financial assistance and grants to individuals and organizations providing athletic opportunities for people with disabilities. Today, we are expanding that work through free adaptive sports programming, community partnerships, and our long-term vision for The Sandbox, a universally designed sports and recreation complex.
Our goal isn’t to duplicate the incredible adaptive programs already serving North Texas. It’s to help more people access them, create new opportunities where gaps exist, and ultimately provide a space where adaptive programs and the people they serve can thrive.
