Every year, talented and determined students across the Dallas-Fort Worth area face a difficult choice: pursue the education they need to build a better future or put it on hold because they can't afford it.
The Scholarship Fund exists to make sure financial hardship doesn't determine a student's future.
Our scholarships fund the next step, whatever form it takes: a college degree, a trade program, a professional license, or a certification that leads to real, lasting employment.
Since our founding, The Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $230,000 in scholarships to more than 100 students across DFW. Our recipients have gone on to become engineers, healthcare professionals, teachers, social workers, policymakers, attorneys, and other contributing members of our community.
It Started With One Conversation
The Scholarship Fund began in 1999, when Dallas attorney Hank Alterman met a young waiter who dreamed of going to college but couldn't afford it. That conversation stayed with him, and a year later, he founded The Scholarship Fund to help other students facing the same barrier.
Hank never learned whether that young man made it to college. What he does know is that one young man's dream has since opened doors for more than 100 others.

To provide educational financial assistance and encouragement to North Texas students who have the desire to further their education, have demonstrated their ability to succeed, and lack the needed financial resources to enroll in college, university, or a trade program from which they can receive a degree, licensure, or certification that can lead to employment.
