Howdy North Texans,

As one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the nation, the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) Metroplex is facing a particularly unique set of environmental challenges. Fueled by a continuously growing population, the widespread development happening in DFW means natural landscapes are being rapidly transformed. Areas that were once open prairies are now covered in concrete, increasing rainwater run-off and flash flooding, trapping excess radiant heat, and depriving the wildlife of their natural habitat.

However, just like Texans—nature is resilient.

The Nature Conservancy (TNC) has been in Texas conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends since 1964. For more than 60 years, we’ve worked collaboratively across the state to ensure that our treasured landscapes, rivers, wildlife and ways of life don’t fade into Texas lore and legend. Our conservation initiatives are addressing the challenges posed by a changing climate, biodiversity crisis, and increasing pressure on natural resources.

To date, we’ve conserved more than 1 million acres of land and over 200 miles of rivers and streams, and we’re collaborating with partners across the state to develop actionable solutions and strategies to address these problems.

With your support on North Texas Giving Day, TNC Texas can continue working to safeguard our state’s natural resources by protecting undeveloped land, preserving vital freshwater supplies, and ensuring future generations of Texans can enjoy the natural beauty of our state for many years to come.

With your support, we can not only conserve the present, but seed a brighter future.

Last of the Blackland | Grasslands are the most endangered and least protected habitat type. Ensuring their resilience through genetic diversity is key to maintaining them into the future.

Mission

Conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends.

Needs

To address the simultaneous climate change and biodiversity crises, TNC Texas needs flexible funding now more than ever. As the world changes rapidly around us, these contributions give TNC Texas the ability to respond swiftly and agilely to problems as they occur in real time.

With your trust and support, we can leverage economies of scale to improve the way Texas protects its communities, landscapes, and ways of life. As Texans face increasing threats, your crucial support of our work comes at a pivotal time for nature.

Equity Statement

We are steadfast in our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion—in our workplace and in our conservation work.

Just as nature requires biodiversity to thrive, a healthy workforce needs diversity to succeed in its mission. We are committed to fostering a diverse workforce, where all colleagues feel valued and respected, free from harassment or bias. An inclusive workforce, guided by our values, upholding a collaborative culture that supports one another and the people and places we serve. And a workforce where everyone has equal opportunity to excel. We are also committed to ensuring our conservation work is informed by diverse voices. This includes, but is not limited to, our work with Indigenous Peoples and Tribes as valued partners, with distinct legal rights and sovereignty. We know that we make better decisions, see greater innovation and achieve stronger, more lasting conservation outcomes when we respect and learn from a variety of experiences and ways of thinking.
