The Arc of Denton County has impacted the Denton county Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities (IDD) community since its charter in 1967. We do this directly through our Self Advocate monthly meetings and book club regularly attended by 22-30 members, social events regularly attended by 50-100+, and the Texas Advocate annual conference attended by 30 of our advocate members. Our help line and email account is monitored 24/7 and provides answers to questions, provide resources, and a sounding board for those parents/individuals that don't no where to turn for help and for those who want to learn more about what we do.
We impact the Denton Community with volunteer opportunities for local colleges and Arc members as well as participation in talks through our Speaker's Bureau and representation at local resource fairs which offer information and services to the IDD community.
We develop community awareness of the needs and potential of the IDD community through our partnerships with Texas Arc, US Arc, Denton County MHMR, Texas Advocates, UNT, TWU, NCTC, The Arc DFW Area, Lewisville ISD, Denton ISD, Lake Dallas ISD, and Sanger ISD. We also share resources with other like-minded nonprofits such as Special Abilities of North Texas, Community For Permanent Supported Housing as well as many others.
