$5,000 Goal

Founded in 1985 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Texoma Family Shelter (TFS) provides safe shelter, meals, case management, and support services to those experiencing homelessness with the goal of returning to independent living. Since 2010, we have housed over 2,400 individuals. Unlike most shelters that operate only overnight and don't accept children, TFS is open 24/7/365 with an average of 30% of our residents being children.

For the safety of the children living here, we require:

  • Background checks
  • Drug testing

In 2024, we expanded our community outreach

  • Food box distribution every day from 1–7 p.m. This schedule helps working families and individuals who might otherwise be unable to access support.
  •  Converted our former thrift store into a computer lab and training center, providing education and skills training to both residents and the broader community.

Our holistic approach promotes growth and stability by encouraging education, leadership, and character development through weekly case management, motivational classes, computer lab access, and community enrichment initiatives.

Our Needs

The need is urgent and rising: the HUD Point-in-Time Count documented

  • 174 homeless individuals in 2023,
  • 456 in 2024,
  • 599 in 2025

*Numbers believed to be undercounted by as much as 40 - 60%.

Growth in the area has caused a surge in rents, taxes, and a housing shortage.  This disproportionately affects the most vulnerable in our community, (single mothers, elderly, and disabled.) Your support will ensure that TFS continues to provide safe shelter and essential services to those who need it most.

Mission

OUR MISSION

Texoma Family Shelter helps homeless families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency by guiding them toward productive skills and attitudes, and by providing lodging and sustenance in a safe and supportive environment.

Needs

In October 2024, we were informed that HUD funding for the Texoma region was redirected to the southern border. This resulted in a $103,000 loss for TFS, significantly impacting our ability to serve a growing population of homeless individuals. Our greatest need is General Operating capital.

Equity Statement

DIVERSITY/INCLUSION STATEMENT

We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our staff, board of directors, volunteers, vendors and the neighbors we serve. In an effort to do so, TFS strives to recruit a diverse board and staff, representative of the population we serve.
