The Texoma Center for Sustainable Welfare (TCSW) provides crisis‑stabilization support for families experiencing domestic violence, medical emergencies, homelessness, incarceration, and other sudden life disruptions. When a crisis hits, families are often forced to make impossible decisions in a matter of minutes. One of the most heartbreaking barriers they face is what to do with their pets.

Shelters, hospitals, and emergency programs cannot accept animals. For many families, this means choosing between entering safety or staying in danger because they refuse to abandon the pet that has been their source of comfort, companionship, and emotional support. Others are pressured to surrender their animals permanently, adding trauma to an already devastating moment.

TCSW removes that barrier.

We provide temporary crisis boarding, resource navigation, and family‑stability support, ensuring that pets are safe while their owners secure shelter, medical care, or emergency services. Our work keeps families together, reduces trauma, and supports safe transitions during the most vulnerable moments of a person’s life.

Our crisis‑boarding program partners with domestic violence shelters, hospitals, social workers, law enforcement, and community organizations across the Texoma region. When a family is fleeing violence, entering the hospital, or facing sudden homelessness, we step in to protect the animals they love. This allows survivors to seek safety without fear, parents to focus on their children’s wellbeing, and individuals in crisis to access the services they need.

Every case is different, but the goal is always the same:Stabilize the family. Protect the pet. Support the transition to safety.

TCSW provides: • Safe, temporary boarding for pets during emergencies • Supplies such as food, crates, bedding, and medical care • Transportation support for families who cannot move their pets • Coordination with shelters, hospitals, and caseworkers • Follow‑up support to help families reunite with their animals • Crisis navigation and resource referrals for long‑term stability

Our mission is simple:Keep families together. Reduce trauma. Support safe transitions.

Your support helps us expand our crisis‑response capacity, increase the number of pets we can safely house, and ensure that no family has to choose between their safety and the animal they love. With your help, we can continue building a compassionate, responsive safety net for families in crisis throughout the Texoma region.

Mission

To support family stability by providing crisis‑safe pet care and essential resources during emergencies, ensuring families can seek safety, shelter, and recovery without abandoning the animals they love.

Needs

The Texoma Center for Sustainable Welfare (TCSW) is the only organization in the Texoma region providing crisis‑safe pet boarding for families experiencing domestic violence, medical emergencies, homelessness, incarceration, or other sudden crises. As demand grows, so do the needs required to keep families safe and together.

We urgently need support for:

• Emergency Boarding Capacity — Funding to increase the number of pets we can safely house during crisis situations.

• Supplies & Care Essentials — Food, crates, bedding, cleaning supplies, enrichment items, and basic veterinary care for animals in our program.

• Transportation Assistance — Fuel and transport support for families who cannot move their pets during emergencies.

• Crisis Response Resources — Rapid‑response funds that allow us to act immediately when shelters, hospitals, or social workers call for help.

• Program Expansion — Support to build sustainable systems, strengthen partnerships, and ensure no family is turned away due to lack of space or resources.

Your contribution directly helps families escape danger, access medical care, and stabilize their lives without being forced to surrender the pets they love. Together, we can ensure that no one has to choose between safety and family.

Equity Statement

TCSW is committed to providing equitable, trauma‑informed crisis support for every family we serve across Collin, Fannin, Grayson, and Cooke Counties. Families experiencing domestic violence, homelessness, medical emergencies, and sudden displacement face significant barriers to safety, and these barriers disproportionately impact BIPOC communities, low‑income households, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities.

Our crisis‑safe pet care program removes a barrier that has historically excluded marginalized families from accessing shelter, medical care, and emergency services. We believe that every person—regardless of race, ethnicity, income, gender identity, or background—deserves access to safety without being forced to surrender the animals they love.

We work to ensure equitable access by partnering with domestic violence shelters, hospitals, social‑service agencies, and community organizations that serve diverse populations. Our approach centers dignity, cultural responsiveness, and the understanding that pets are part of the family.

TCSW is committed to continuous learning, inclusive practices, and expanding our services so that all families can seek safety, stability, and recovery without discrimination or systemic barriers.
