For 25 Years We’ve been Saving Pyrs in Texas
We’re a Texas volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to saving, healing, and rehoming Great Pyrenees and Pyrenees mixes across Texas.
Founded in 2001 with a handful of few volunteers and a couple neglected livestock guardian dogs, we’ve since then saved more than 6,500 dogs. We rescue pyrenees and their mixes from overcrowded shelters, unsafe environments, owner surrenders, abuse, and abandonment. Many arrive sick, injured, or simply out of time. We say yes anyway.
Each year, we rescue close to 400 dogs, serving communities across four regional chapters in Texas and coordinating transport nationwide — we’re committed to helping our dogs go where they have the best chance to thrive.
We operate as a 100% foster-based rescue. Every dog is placed in a carefully selected foster home, where they receive medical care, rehabilitation, socialization, and the time needed to decompress. This model allows us to truly understand each dog’s temperament, medical needs, and lifestyle fit before adoption, resulting in stronger matches and long-term success.
Because we commit to our dogs for life, every TGPR dog has a permanent safety net. If an adoption ever fails, the dog returns to us. No exceptions. No dogs are ever abandoned, rehomed privately, or left without support.
We rescue the dogs others overlook, invest in them fully, and stand by them always.
Texas Great Pyrenees Rescue is dedicated to community education about Great Pyrenees dogs, and the rescue, care, and responsible adoption of Great Pyrenees mixes.
