Texas Lawyers for Children (“TLC”) protects abused and neglected children from being harmed in foster care. We advocate for these children in the courts, community, and legislature to create far-reaching, statewide positive change. TLC's expert attorneys also assist children's court-appointed attorneys with their cases. In addition, TLC provides training and resources to nearly 4,000 Texas judges and attorneys who make life-changing decisions for over 30,000 abused and neglected children each year.

Our Needs

  • $50 allows TLC's expert attorneys to consult with court-appointed attorneys on the unique needs of abused children.
  • $100 trains an Education Advocate, helping foster children beat the odds -- only 60% graduate high school.
  • $250 provides training and resources to assist one court-appointed attorney in protecting 50 children a year.  
  • $500 updates thousands of judges and attorneys on best practices for traumatized children.
  • $1,000 funds a training program benefiting tens of thousands of children statewide.
  • $2,500 funds legislative advocacy impacting 30,000 child abuse/neglect victims statewide.

Mission

The mission of Texas Lawyers for Children ("TLC") is to improve case and life outcomes for abused and neglected children by enhancing the quality of legal services they receive, by raising public awareness, and by facilitating improvement in systems that serve children and families. The most important decisions about an abused and neglected child's future are made in court. TLC exists to help ensure that those decisions are the best possible for the child and lead to healing, instead of harm, while children are in the Texas foster care system.

No child deserves to undergo the trauma of abuse, neglect, or a childhood spent in the foster care system, and it is our privilege to stand up and fight for these children regardless of gender, race, income level, or sexual orientation. All children deserve a safe childhood.
