Southwest Christian Academy traces its roots back to 1929, when it began as Oakland Seventh-day Adventist Church and Elementary School—the first Black Christian school in the DFW Metroplex. Over the decades, the school underwent several name changes and relocations:
1951–1969: Became Southwest Region Academy, offering Pre-K through 12th grade.
1969: Relocated due to I-45 construction; renamed City Temple Elementary School, later regaining junior academy status in 1975.
1999: Transitioned under the Southwest Region Conference as Southwest Adventist Junior Academy.
2025: Officially renamed Southwest Christian Academy, relocating to 7550 S. Hampton Rd., Dallas, while awaiting a permanent new facility.
Throughout its history, SWCA has remained one of the oldest Black Christian private schools in the Metroplex, known for academic excellence, spiritual development, and producing accomplished alumni—including doctors, attorneys, educators, pastors, and business leaders.
Its enduring mission has been the holistic development of students—spiritually, mentally, and physically—while fostering service to God, church, and community.
Our Needs
Why Southwest Christian Academy Needs Your Support
Southwest Christian Academy is committed to providing a Christ-centered education where students are nurtured academically, spiritually, and socially. While tuition covers part of the cost, it does not fully meet the financial needs required to sustain excellence in teaching and learning.
Your gift on North Texas Giving Day helps us:
Provide scholarships and tuition assistance so that more children can access Christian education.
Enhance our classrooms with technology, updated resources, and hands-on learning tools that prepare students for the future.
Support extracurricular programs such as robotics, music, and the arts that develop creativity and leadership.
Strengthen our spiritual programming, including chapels, Week of Prayer, and Bible study opportunities, ensuring that Christ remains at the center of all we do.
Every contribution—large or small—makes a direct impact in shaping young lives for God’s kingdom and preparing students to serve their communities with excellence.
Together, we can continue to build a strong foundation for the next generation of Christian leaders.
