We believe In a COLLECTIVE OF ARTISTS who use their craft to create sustainable cultural and economic opportunities to ultimately, build better selves and communities.
In engaging the IMAGINATION of our audiences and shaping the IMAGINATION of a future generation of theatre artists.
In honoring the SPIRIT of the creative process exemplified by those ancestor artists who laid the foundation for the Black Theater Movement.
We provide a space to transform negative energy into creative energy and to give positive artistic energy a home.
That the Soul Rep Theatre experience will always UPLIFT, EDUCATE, INSPIRE, and PERMEATE the SOULS of those we serve.
Soul Rep Theatre consistently provides a platform and voice for artists of color and women to share, grow, and thrive. We produce original works, regional premieres, classical pieces in the Black Theater canon and more. We also provide an array of arts educational programs for children, youth, and adults offered at no or low cost, with a focus on residents of South Dallas and the greater southern sector.
Our Needs
Soul Rep Theatre is seeking $10,000 in operating funds to support the company’s upcoming dynamic 2022-2023 Season of plays and programs – “To Dallas, with Love” - that will kick off this month with special staged readings, presented in collaboration with The Dallas Public Library and Big D Reads, of TRAVISVILLE, a play inspired by Jim Schutze’s THE ACCOMODATION: The Politics of Race in an American City, deemed “essential reading in understanding Dallas.”
In addition to these “free” staged readings, Soul Rep will present two full productions, TRAVISVILLE by William Jackson Harper and SEXY LAUNDRY by Michele Riml; hold its biennial SHINE NEW PLAY FESTIVAL that will feature a selection of short new comedic plays; and hold a staged reading of a newly commissioned play by Erin Malone made possible through a generous TACA New Works Grant. Additionally, Soul Rep will continue to provide its unique arts education program for youth, LIBERATION LABORATORY, at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
