The Seed Project Foundation champions organic and sustainable agriculture through education and community-driven initiatives.

McKinney Roots, the largest initiative of the Seed Project Foundation, is a nonprofit donation farm dedicated to fighting food insecurity while demonstrating regenerative agriculture. Located on 45 acres at Gray Branch Park in McKinney, the farm donates 100% of its harvest through nine nonprofit partners serving families throughout Collin County.

Today, the farm produces more than 21 varieties of vegetables, cares for over 400 pasture-raised laying hens and 211 fruit trees, and is supported by a dedicated team of full time farmers and more than 700 volunteers. In 2025 alone, McKinney Roots donated 15 tons of fresh produce, 15,000 heads of lettuce, and 8,000 dozen eggs while educating thousands of visitors about sustainable farming.

Future plans include increased food production, a larger greenhouse, expanded orchards and poultry operations, an accessible learning garden, and a renovated barn that will serve as a community and research center offering cooking classes, gardening education, and programs focused on water conservation and regenerative agriculture.

Education is central to the mission. Through a partnership with McKinney ISD, every second-grade student has the opportunity to visit the farm for a hands-on, TEKS-aligned field trip, learning firsthand where food comes from and how healthy soil, water, and ecosystems support healthy communities.

Gray Branch remains a public park where visitors can enjoy 4.5 miles of trails, nature exploration, and educational experiences integrated throughout the farm. As production grows, McKinney Roots expects to more than double the amount of fresh food provided to families experiencing food insecurity across Collin County while continuing to restore natural resources and inspire future generations.
