The Sankofa Foundation of DFW is a 501(c)3 organization that has been serving the youth of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area since 1997. The foundation's mission is to support underserved youth in the Dallas metropolitan area through high-quality mentoring and outreach initiatives, focusing on education, character development, self-esteem, life skills, and good citizenship. To fulfill this mission, the Sankofa Foundation has partnered with leading non-profits and local educational institutions to have a greater influence on the lives of young people. The foundation's four signature programs are the Alpha Legacy Scholarship Gala, Alpha Legacy Mentoring Group, Black History Month Essay Contest, and Coat & Toy Drive.
The Foundations's mission is to support the underserved youth in the Dallas metroplex by delivering top quality mentoring programs and youth outreach initiatives. We focus on programs that encourage education, build self-esteem and promote good citizenship. To carry out it's mission, the Sankofa Foundation has partnered with leading non-profit and local educational institutions to have a greater influence on the lives of our youth.
Alpha Legacy Scholarship Gala
- Scholarship Funds: Provide direct financial support to deserving students to help them achieve their higher education goals.
- Event Sponsorships: Cover the costs associated with the gala, such as venue rental, catering, and awards.
Alpha Legacy Group
- Mentoring Program Supplies: Fund the purchase of workbooks, educational materials, and supplies for youth workshops.
- Field Trip & Activity Costs: Support enriching experiences for mentees, such as college tours or museum visits.
Black History Month Essay Contest
- Student Prizes: Provide gift cards, electronics, or other prizes to recognize and reward the winning student essays.
- Contest Administration: Cover the costs of essay judging, printing, and a recognition ceremony for participants.
Coat & Toy Drive
- New Coats & Toys: Purchase items for children in need in the Dallas/Ft. Worth community.
- Logistics & Distribution: Cover the costs of sorting, storing, and delivering the donated coats and toys to families.
