Saarthi

A nonprofit organization

SAARTHI is dedicated to empowering South Asian women and families to live free from domestic abuse and achieve economic stability and independence.

Recognizing that deep cultural barriers including stigma and shame and limited financial resources available to the south Asian women who are often dependent on their husbands due to a dependent visa often prevent them from seeking professional help, SAARTHI provides culturally informed, sociologically guided programs that address both the immediate safety and long-term stability of survivors.

Through its flagship program, Nayi Shuruyat (New Beginning), SAARTHI offers employment readiness training, financial counseling, temporary housing assistance, and trauma-informed counseling to help survivors rebuild their lives with dignity. The organization also conducts community workshops and awareness campaigns on domestic violence prevention, healthy relationships, and access to local resources.

Mission

The mission of SAARTHI is to empower South Asian women and families to live free from domestic abuse and achieve long-term stability and self-reliance. SAARTHI was Founded in 2016 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area by Dr. Shikha Batra, a sociologist with over two decades of experience working with families in crisis . Through sociological guidance and culturally informed employment training, financial counseling, and housing support, SAARTHI helps survivors rebuild safe, independent lives while strengthening their economic health and stability.

Needs

Every day, immigrant South Asian women in North Texas suffer silently behind closed doors, live in family turmoil that no one sees and deal with domestic abuse without the cultural support, resources, or guidance they need to stay safe. SAARTHI’s community-centered approach is unique: we meet women where they are, honor their cultural realities, and offer personalized guidance rooted in sociological research, temporary housing, food, transportation, counseling connections, and a roadmap to safety.

Equity Statement

SAARTHI is committed to equity by ensuring that every South Asian immigrant woman gets the chance to feel safe, heard, and supported irrespective of her immigration status, language, or cultural background. We stand with women who have been marginalized by silence and cultural stigma, and we provide the guidance and resources they need to rebuild their lives. Together, we can create a North Texas where every woman has the right to safety and respect.
