Founded in 2022 by a group of people with a passion for reading and treasured memories of the book fairs of their childhood, Pop-Up Books brings free book fairs to kids in DFW who live in book deserts—or homes that have less access to books—to increase their love of reading, and, ultimately, improve their reading proficiency.
This school year, we’re partnering with four Dallas-area Title I elementary schools to bring a free Pop-Up Books fair to their students—that's over 2,400 kids! Each school we serve must be a Title I public school, as defined by the State of Texas standards. While each school has a slightly different demographic, at least 70% of students are considered economically disadvantaged or at-risk based on state-defined criteria, and there is a high percentage of bilingual students.
At each fair, we’ll fill our shelves with 2,000 brand-new books spanning various reading levels, genres, abilities, and languages, creating a space where kids can explore and deepen their reading interests.
Every child who walks into the Pop-Up Books fair takes home one brand-new, free book of their choosing at no cost to them, their family, or their school or program, for their home library.
Since our founding, more than 6,645 kids have found a book that captured their interest and advanced their reading proficiency at one of our free book fairs.
We can’t imagine a better experience or way for kids to fall in love with reading—and we appreciate your generous support to help us make each fair happen!
High-fives for the Pop-Up Books fairs!
The mission of the Pop-Up Books Foundation is threefold:
(a) to provide brand-new free books to children of local communities in a book fair format to improve access to and encourage enthusiasm for reading;
(b) to educate the public about local resources that grant free or affordable access to educational materials;
(c) and, to support other events and organizations that focus on reading.
Pop-Up Books serves communities and children in book deserts within the DFW metro area. All qualified organizations will be considered without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability.
