What about our children you ask? For more than a century Kiwanis International has created opportunities for children to be curious, safe and healthy regardless of the community in which they live. Our mission for Plano is a simple one yet far reaching. We invest in the community through member action for the benefit of children & youth and where we can partner with other local groups to increase our impact. The Foundation is a 501(c)3 non profit organization.
Your donation of a $100 can buy 35 bilingual books for early readers in the Plano area.
Our focus with this program has shown success in east Plano where a bilingual book in the home is not always available. Help Plano Kiwanis provide bilingual books for after school events such as Head Start open house for parents, school literacy nights, Boys and Girls Club and more.
The 2023 summer school program at Plano ISD had about 450 students in the early grades. Each student received a bilingual book on the last day of school to take home courtesy of the Books and Buddies service project.
Bilingual books alone are just a tool. However in the hands of a parent or child they are a door to a new and exciting adventure.
Plano Kiwanis is part of Kiwanis International, a national organization dedicated to serving one child-one community at a time. One of the many ways we fulfill our mission is to provide bilingual reading opportunities for early readers within the Plano community. Books and Buddies is our signature project. We serve all children without regard to any label. Kiwanis International has a strong equity statement on their website.
