The Pegasus Media Project (PMP), was founded in 2012 by Iranian-born artist-educator Niloo Jalilvand, who taught at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts for 21 years, where she launched the student-led Pegasus Film Festival in 2015 to inspire and empower young people to pursue their passion for filmmaking.
In 2021, Jalilvand joined forces with Dallas filmmaker, Christian Vasquez, to establish the Pegasus Media Project (PMP) as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
What we do for Artists and Audiences:
Our programs are free-of-cost and designed to champion diversity through transformative storytelling, empowering marginalized communities through comprehensive education, collaborative works, and career pathways.
Media pre+Apprenticeship Program: In 2021, PMP partnered with Arts2work, the winner of the MIT Solve Prize for Reimagining Pathways to Employment, and Dallas Workforce Solutions to create PMP's Arts2work Multimedia pre+Apprenticeship Program (MAP)—a workforce initiative that is a federally registered national apprenticeship program in media arts and creative technologies.
MAP is a 10- month program designed to prepare candidates to work in the media arts industry. Includes: Equipment, software, & support. Apprentices will have in-person & virtual educational classes, on-the- job-training, mentorship, and production experience- creating original media content! MAP is divided into 3 Phases. Phase 1 is Film School Bootcamp containing class hours filled with practice and theory. Phase 2 is Film Sets which will include apprentice-led films and client-requested projects. Phase 3 will be the Apprenticeship matched in your choice career path.
Some of PMP’s partnering employers are AMS Pictures, KERA, Paperlyte Media and more.
Pegasus Film Festival (PFF): The Pegasus Film Festival is the nation's largest student-led film festival. Participating in the PFF Leadership Team presents a platform for students to apply their organizational prowess in orchestrating the festival, channel their creativity into crafting compelling promotional videos, and forge meaningful connections with sponsors, colleges, and partner organizations. From college fairs to industry workshops and captivating panels, your donations will allow PMP the opportunity to continue to mentor local students and screen high school filmmakers work from around the world.
This year The Pegasus Film Festival will be May 25-26, 2024.
Exhibition of Visions: The event showcases the creative works of emerging artist apprentices in the PAMA program and the local art community. The event is open to the public with a special invitation to Texas media artists, employers, curators, and educators.
Youth Portable Film Program: Is an experience-based educational program where students can explore, reflect, and interpret creatively the challenging world through the art of storytelling. PMP provides hands-on education and equipment for students in area schools which do not provide media/film programs.
