Where Healing Flows Both Way
Patch’s Place is more than a sanctuary. It’s a place where horses who have been through the unthinkable find safety, and where, somehow, they help people find a little healing of their own.
We provide a permanent home for draft horses with special medical needs, horses whose age, injuries, trauma, or ongoing conditions mean adoption may no longer be an option. Here, they are given the specialized care, patience, dignity, and love they need for the rest of their lives.
In partnership with 1 Horse @ A Time Draft Horse Rescue, we work to save draft horses from the auction and slaughter pipelines. For those who cannot be adopted because of lifelong medical needs, Patch’s Place becomes home.
But something beautiful happens once they’re here.
As these horses begin to feel safe again, they often become part of someone else’s healing journey.
Through free Equine Assisted Coaching, our horses connect with veterans living with PTSD, survivors of domestic violence and trauma, children and adults with learning differences, those who have experienced bullying, and people simply trying to grow, rebuild their confidence, or become the best version of themselves.
We also offer free equine camps for children to help build their self esteem and confidence, along with holistic experiences including Reiki with horses, yoga with horses, mindfulness, grounding, meditation, breathwork, and healing drumming.
There is something incredibly powerful about standing beside a two thousand-pound animal who has survived hard things and still chooses to trust.
At Patch’s Place, horses are given the chance to heal, feel safe, and simply be horses again. And in return, they remind us that we can heal, grow, trust, and find our way forward, too.
That’s the heart of Patch’s Place: healing horses who, in their own beautiful way, help heal people.
Mission
Patch’s Place is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit draft horse sanctuary dedicated to providing lifelong care and a permanent home to rescued draft horses whose medical conditions, age, or emotional needs make them unsuitable for adoption.
Our mission is to give these horses what they may have never known, safety, dignity, specialized care, and the promise that they will never have to search for another home again.
As our horses heal and learn to trust, some choose to become part of our free horse-led Equine Assisted Coaching and wellness programs, creating meaningful connections with people seeking healing, confidence, growth, and connection.
At Patch’s Place, sanctuary means forever. We believe every horse deserves to feel safe, valued, and loved for the rest of their life, and that through the extraordinary connection between horses and humans, healing can flow both ways.

Needs
Hay & Specialized Feed — Quality hay, senior and specialty feeds, supplements, minerals, and individualized nutrition for horses with complex medical needs.
Farrier & Hoof Care — Routine and corrective hoof care, including specialized care for horses with chronic lameness, arthritis, and other medical conditions.
Veterinary & Specialized Medical Care — Routine veterinary care, medications, diagnostics, dental care, treatments, and long-term management of chronic conditions.
Facility Improvements & Equine Infrastructure — Safe shelters, fencing, medical areas, improved footing, drainage, water systems, and equipment designed to safely accommodate draft horses with special needs.
General Ongoing Support — Unrestricted funding for the everyday expenses of providing lifelong sanctuary and ensuring every horse receives the care, comfort, and dignity they deserve.
Property & Pasture Maintenance — Mowing, pasture management, fencing repairs, mud management, gravel, equipment maintenance, tree care, and upkeep of the sanctuary grounds.
Medical & Emergency Fund — Funding for unexpected veterinary emergencies, hospitalization, diagnostics, medications, emergency transportation, and other urgent medical needs.
Volunteers & Community Programs — Supplies, equipment, and resources to support our volunteers, children’s programs, Junior Volunteers, Equine Assisted Coaching, and other free community programs.
