Over the past 27 years, we have learned at Parker County Center of Hope that while addressing the material aspects of poverty is important, true rehabilitation and restoration are only achieved through long-term solutions. We focus our work on an integrated service model that addresses the holistic needs of individuals and leads them to a path of economic independence and improved quality of life. We believe: every person has value; relationships are essential to discover the root of the problem; effective assistance requires accountability; long-term solutions require personal investment; and success is achieved through addressing physical, educational and spiritual needs.
Parker County Center of Hope has three strategies to help struggling families: Basic Assistance, Education and Career Development, and Family Empowerment.
We offer short-term basic assistance to families by providing services such as daily meals in our dining room, groceries, resource referrals and financial assistance for utilities, dental and medical needs.
Our Education and Career Development Program equips individuals with long-term solutions that foster self-efficacy and empower them to create their own path to success. Through Adult Education, we offer ESL (six levels), GED tutoring, citizenship preparation, and math and language applications. Participants also benefit from personalized support such as life and financial coaching, résumé development, job search assistance, our Keep CALM mental wellness class, and referrals for professional counseling.
Our Career Development Program provides customized action plans (S.T.E.P.S.), life and job skills courses (Powered for Life and Jobs for Life), and computer skills training. Additionally, our Careers NOW Program equips students with job readiness training, résumé and interview preparation, and an introduction to the construction field. Upon completion, participants earn a 10-hour OSHA certification, with plans to expand the program into additional vocational pathways.
Our Family Empowerment program extends into low-income neighborhoods throughout Parker County to reach kids and their families. With the help of local churches and organizations, 10 summer camps will serve over 500 children with weekly groceries, educational opportunities, crafts and activities and mentoring support from over 200 caring volunteers.
In Christ-like service, equipping and empowering people to live a successful, joy-filled life.
