One Southlake is a history enrichment program that draws from DFW-area, First- or Second-Generation American Speakers representing more than 30 different countries. These speakers share stories of growing up outside the United States. Our speakers include a second generation Holocaust survivor, survivors of communism and totalitarian regimes and people who simply moved to the United States for economic opportunities.
We have three speaker-based programs that are educational, engaging and add value to both teachers and students. Speakers are knowledgeable of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and are prepared to speak to those TEKS.
One Southlake also has a robust Student Scholarship Program. The 2024-25 Scholarship was open to public, private and home-schooled students in 10th through 12th grade in several Texas counties, including Tarrant, Denton, Parker, Wise and Palo Pinto. To qualify, all the contestants had to complete a brief online class on the subject of Marxism, Socialism and Communism through the curriculums from Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation or Hillsdale College Online and then write an essay or create a video about the societal effects of a communist government, and how contemporary Marxist attitudes, such as controlled or compelled speech, left unchecked, could potentially erode the freedoms Americans enjoy today. Three students won scholarships totaling $4,500.
