WHO WE HELP

Take a second to put yourself in our client’s shoes. You’ve lived two different lives at this point: before you were incarcerated and being in prison. Now, you’re embarking on yet another new life that you know you have to succeed in or you’re returning to prison.

When released, you have 3 things – the clothes on your back, a bus ticket and $100 – and you’ve been tasked with successfully reentering into society.

But what does that even mean? How do you do that without being a burden on your family, if you have one to go to? Who are you now that you’re out? And who will give you a chance in the real world? Where do you even start?

One Man’s Treasure is here to help our clients take that first step and give them the support needed to go beyond.

WHAT WE DO

We’re a faith-based non-profit centered in the belief that finding employment is the first step to successful reentry. As such, One Man’s Treasure provides a FREE, personalized set of clothing to each client that they can feel confident in to assist and support them during the employment search. Through clothing, we help provide men with dignity and hope as they embark on a new life.

But we don’t stop there, we ensure our clients receive appropriate community-based services and help connect them to partners that support their individual needs like housing, transportation, food access, healthcare, a church or community, and education.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. We work with partners like Texas Department of Criminal Justice Rehabilitation and Reentry Divisions' caseworkers, Chaplaincy, Windham School, area transition homes, prison ministries and other non-profits to help identify clients and provide access to our application.
  2. Clients fill out an application about their sizes and style or they can call us directly to set everything up.
  3. Our volunteers create a set of clothes personalized to each client and then male volunteers, Shepherds, deliver the clothes to our clients’ residence.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE TOGETHER

  • Since its establishment in 2005, One Man’s Treasure has served over 25,000 men
  • We’ve grown to be the clothing resource for over 40 institutions and expanded to serve counties in DFW and East Texas areas
  • In 2024 alone, we directly saved our community millions in tax dollars on a budget of less than $600k!
  • Our clients’ recidivism rate is 9.5%, a true success compared to the Texas average of more than 20%

Mission

Our goal is to disrupt the cycle of recidivism by providing men with clothing and essential social service connections to help them prosper during their re-entry to DFW and East Texas communities.

What's recidivism? By definition, recidivism is the tendency to relapse into a previous condition or mode of behavior, specifically criminal behavior.

Our goal is to help men recently released from Texas state prisons get the support they need so that they don't return to prison. We believe that first crucial step is finding employment so we provide men with a FREE start up wardrobe to help them feel confident and look good!

Our success is measured through annual recidivism studies that show a substantially lower annual rate for our clients at 9.5%, a true success compared to the Texas average of more than 20%!

Needs

We do not receive any government funding so let's talk about how your dollars are used.

The average cost of the clothing provided in a startup wardrobe to each man

• A pair of jeans = $30

• A pair of slacks = $50

• Two dress shirts = $100

• Two short sleeve shirts = $50

• Athletic shoes = $50 (If requested, work boots = $75)

• Three underwear = $10

• Four sets of Socks = $15

• A tie = $20

• A belt = $25

$350 = giving a man a new beginning and another chance to change a client's life!

Imagine what $1,000 or $5,000 could do? Please give generously! It truly makes a difference.
