The Native Plant Society of Texas was started in the Fall of 1980. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. Our chapter was activated in June of 1993 with a small group of people. Today, we have over 400 members in our chapter.
We want all Texans to value native plants, native habitats and healthy ecosystems as essential to the well-being of living things and to our quality of life. Our vision is a future where native habitats are managed as critically beneficial natural assets, and where residential and commercial developments employ sustainable designs that preserve and promote native habitats.
Our more than 30 chapters across Texas further the mission of the Society at the community level, sponsoring educational speakers, field trips, workshops, on such subjects as plant identification, propagation and landscaping, work in demonstration gardens and many other types of projects.
The mission of the Native Plant Society of Texas is to promote conservation, research and utilization of native plants and plant habitats of Texas through education, outreach, and example.
Your generous donation will help fund critical initiatives aimed at preserving and promoting native plants through education, outreach, and direct conservation efforts. Your support will make a difference in the following areas:
-Summer internships for Parks and Recreation Department, training the next generation of environmental leaders to educate the public about native flora and fauna.
-The "Bring Back the Monarch to Texas" project, working to restore habitats for this crucial pollinator.
-Native plant demonstration gardens that showcase the benefits of native landscaping.
-Preservation of local prairies, ensuring these ecosystems remain healthy and resilient.
-Educational resources and native seed packets to distribute at events and inspire community action.
-Native Landscape Certification Program, empowering individuals and organizations to create sustainable landscapes using native plants.
-Native plants in school gardens, introducing young people to the importance of native flora while helping schools create vibrant, educational green spaces.
-Support for the Society Symposium, a gathering of experts and enthusiasts focused on advancing knowledge and advocacy for native plants.
We are an organization that welcomes all people to join us in creating and providing healthy habitats for flora and fauna through the use of native plants in their respective ecosystems.
