Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) – National Organization Bio

The Young Men’s Service League (YMSL) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to developing young men into capable, compassionate leaders through a unique four-year program of service, leadership training, and mother–son engagement. Founded in Plano, Texas in 2001, YMSL has grown into a nationwide movement, now encompassing more than 41 states, 160+ chapters, and over 22,000 members.

At its core, YMSL’s mission is simple yet powerful: to assist, serve, and support those who are in need in our local communities. What makes YMSL unique is its model—mothers and their high school-aged sons join together as volunteers, working side by side to make a lasting difference. This shared service not only strengthens communities but also strengthens families, creating meaningful connections and instilling lifelong values in the next generation.

Service in ActionEach YMSL chapter partners with a diverse network of local philanthropies—homeless shelters, food banks, senior centers, special needs programs, animal rescues, and more—allowing members to engage directly with those they serve. Annually, YMSL members collectively contribute hundreds of thousands of volunteer hours, impacting thousands of lives across the country.

Leadership Development Beyond service, YMSL offers a comprehensive leadership program that equips young men with essential life skills. Members have the opportunity to serve in chapter leadership roles, participate in team projects, learn public speaking, and develop project management abilities. These experiences prepare them to enter college, careers, and civic life as confident, service-minded leaders.

Impact & GrowthSince its founding, YMSL has become one of the fastest-growing volunteer organizations of its kind. Our growth reflects a shared belief that young people have the power to transform their communities—and that families volunteering together create a ripple effect of compassion, responsibility, and action.

Support for Partner Philanthropies – Empowering our members to serve alongside local nonprofits, helping them expand their reach and impact in the community through coordinated volunteer efforts and hands-on service activities.

Technology & Reporting Tools – Ensuring chapters can track volunteer hours, manage service projects, and measure community impact efficiently.

Expansion of Community Partnerships – Building relationships with new nonprofit partners to broaden our reach and serve more causes across North Texas.
