Needs
Prescription Care - $7 to $600 per patient
The Foundation sets aside funds for admitted patients who cannot be discharged in good conscience without the prescriptions they cannot afford. Rather than occupying a hospital room or being discharged unsafely, the Foundation works with the hospital pharmacy to pay for the necessary medication so the patient can be safely released and on their way.
Hear from our Director of Care Management, Megan Schwartz, “When being discharged from the hospital, many of our uninsured or underinsured patients are faced with the dilemma of choosing between paying for their medications, which allow them to recover and safely return to daily life, or paying for necessities such as food, housing, and utilities. The Foundation has worked alongside the hospital staff and the Methodist Community Pharmacy to pay for medications prescribed at discharge. Many pharmaceutical companies have patient assistance programs available; however, the time it takes to process these requests can leave patients vulnerable. Patients without access to these critical medications are at higher risk for re-hospitalization, disease progression, and even death. The funds provided by the Foundation through the discharge medication program can bridge the gap by providing medications at no charge.”
Cancer Patient Care: Artist-in-Residence Program - $500 per day
The program aims to help patients, their families, and caregivers discover their creative resources as antidotes to the fear, isolation, and boredom that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. The Artist-in-Residence Program serves an estimated 660 patients annually.
Cancer Patient Care: Massage Therapy - $30 to $60 per patient
Massage Therapy is provided for patients currently under treatment and is also available for their families and caregivers. Benefits of massage include releasing muscle tension, promoting relaxation, helping to alleviate pain, and promoting rest and sleep. The Massage Therapy Program is fully funded by the Foundation and offers a free 30-minute treatment to 550 patients each year.
Grateful Patient
Are you a grateful patient or do you want to honor someone you love? Any donation will do.
The Foundation works with each medical department to fund staff-selected projects that bring on new equipment and experiences that support the hospital's service-hearted motto to serve patients and one another. We've paid for everything from souped-up wheelchairs to infant rockers. All initiatives are born from the Methodist Richardson medical staff.
