Community Food Pantry of McKinney

For 50 years, the Community Food Pantry of McKinney has been a beacon of hope for our neighbors in need. Founded in 1974, our mission has always been simple yet profound: to ensure that no neighbor in our community goes hungry. This year, we proudly celebrated our 50th anniversary, reflecting on five decades of compassion, service, and unwavering commitment to fighting food insecurity in McKinney.

According to the North Texas Food Bank, we are the largest choice pantry in McKinney, serving more individuals than any other local pantry. Each month, we welcome over 10,000 individuals—families, seniors, veterans, and children—providing them with not just food, but dignity and hope. Our choice pantry model allows our neighbors to shop for groceries just as they would in a store, selecting the items their families need most. This approach honors their autonomy and ensures nothing goes to waste, while creating a welcoming environment rooted in respect and compassion.

The heartbeat of our pantry is our incredible volunteer family. More than 50 dedicated volunteers join us every single day to help stock shelves, prepare groceries, greet our neighbors, and carry food to their cars. Behind the scenes, our team works tirelessly, doing grocery store pickups seven days a week and serving the community five days a week. It takes all of us—staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners—to keep our shelves stocked and our doors open.

Over the past year, the need has grown like never before. Rising living costs and soaring grocery prices have driven more families to our doors, many for the very first time. Yet, thanks to our incredible supporters, we continue to meet the moment. Our work is powered by the generosity of donors, the hands of volunteers, and the partnerships with the North Texas Food Bank, local grocery stores, and countless community members who believe in our mission.

The Community Food Pantry of McKinney is more than a place to receive food—it is a place where kindness meets action, where neighbors care for neighbors, and where hope is always on the menu. Together, we can continue this 50-year legacy of service and ensure that the next 50 years shine even brighter for the families who need us most.

Your support this North Texas Giving Day helps us continue to serve thousands of neighbors each month, providing essential groceries and a reminder that no one in our community is alone.

Giving Activity

Mission

We are a choice pantry where families in need of food may shop freely, offering a welcoming space that honors autonomy and humanity.

With local personal and business contributions and the personal attention of volunteers—who thoughtfully prepare and assist every step of the way—we strive to build a hunger-free future rooted in respect, hope, and shared community.

Needs

We are in urgent need of a deep freezer to help us meet the growing demand of our community. Every day, we run out of freezer space as we serve between 600–800 individuals each month. With generous donations from our grocery store partners—including frozen meats, meals, and other perishable items—we are simply unable to store everything we receive. A deep freezer would allow us to preserve more food safely and ensure we can continue helping as many neighbors as possible without turning away valuable donations or families in need.

Equity Statement

At the Community Food Pantry of McKinney, we are dedicated to promoting dignity by ensuring that those struggling with food insecurity have equitable access to nutritious food.
