Lucky and Sadie's Place is a senior dog sanctuary where forever really means forever. Our home will be the final home for the seniors who become a part of our family. We offer 3 levels of care to our senior dogs. "Assisted living" means the dog is healthy, still active and just needs someone to ensure they have balanced meals, veterinary care to keep them healthy and love to remind them that they matter. "Long term care" is for the seniors who need supervision, a structured routine, daily medications, daily monitoring of their health to ensure changes are identified quickly and veterinary care is received timely. This level of care is needed for our blind dogs, deaf dogs, arthritic dogs, dementia dogs and various other health concerns. We do have a few younger dogs who were in shelter and had special medical needs. "Hospice care" a very special level of care that we provide. While heartbreaking for us, we can ensure that a terminally ill dog has the best quality of life for the limited amount of time they have left. Quality over quantity is always important to us and we try to ensure that every dog who comes to us with a hospice prognosis will receive the absolute best quality of life that we can provide. The founder of Lucky and Sadie's Place has years of experience as a hospice nurse. Our amazing veterinarian is also aligned with our mission to ensure these senior dogs have the best of everything available to them.

We also specialize in bonded pairs. While younger dogs may do well being separated from the sibling or friend they have been with for a short time, it is much different for senior. They look to their companion for comfort and security. It is very important to us to keep bonded pairs together for the remainder of their life. If you ever have the chance to witness this up close, you will understand why it matters in the senior population.

There is no time limit to how long a dog can remain with Lucky and Sadie's Place. There is no breed, personality or health concern that we won't consider. Our goal is to heal the hurts, let downs and negatives in a dog's life so they can leave this world knowing they mattered and were loved without stipulations.

Lucky and Sadie's Place has no paid employees. We are not a foster based rescue and all dogs are kept with us so we can interact and love them every single day in person.

Our Needs

Our two largest needs each year is funding for veterinary care and food.  We provide each new intake with a comprehensive senior physical at a cost of approximately $300 so that we know their overall health status. It gives us a good starting point to be able to identify relevant changes in their health status.

We have numerous daily medications that are given to ensure health conditions are managed as effectively as possible. Some of the medications are available in generics and some are not. We won't let cost determine whether a dog can receive the medications needed to improve their health.

We use several different foods including some prescription foods. We try to maintain the same food to avoid stomach upsets in the geriatric population. We have to consider dental issues and health conditions. Providing various foods at different consistencies is a must. We don't utilize the food banks for these reasons and prefer to purchase our foods for consistency.

Giving Activity

Mission

To provide a safe and loving home for senior/sick dogs who end up in shelters or owner surrenders. These senior and sick dogs are rarely chosen for adoption due to the high cost of medical and requirements to care for them. We believe that the sick senior dogs need a place to call home and have all their needs met. Our focus is on making their quality of life the best it can be for whatever time they have left. Each dog we take becomes a part of our family and is provided with all the love their heart can hold.

Needs

We use our donations for medical care, dogfood, medications, beds, blankets, cleaning supplies and anything to ensure the health and safety of the dogs in our care.

Equity Statement

We will work with any shelter in our area to assist with senior dogs and also work with citizens who need to rehome their senior dogs when we have availability.
