The Liberian Community Association of Dallas Fort Worth (LCA- DFW) was founded over 30 years ago by its first president, David Peters, along with Henry Harmon, James Bass, and a handful of other hardworking Liberians primarily to provide a support system for Liberian students studying in the area.

At Liberian Community Association DFW we pride ourselves in the daily contribution to individual and Liberian community wellbeing. We believe that by sharing common values we can increase the opportunity of each Liberian in the community.

Mission

Our mission is to help residents and resettled Liberians by promoting cross cultural activities, educational and socioeconomic development awareness programs in the Dallas Fort Worth area of Texas.

Needs

To continue our mission of supporting and uplifting the Liberian community in the DFW area, the Liberian Community Association of DFW has identified several key needs:

Financial Support: We rely on donations and grants to fund our programs and initiatives, including emergency assistance, educational scholarships, and community events. Continued financial contributions are essential to sustaining and expanding our impact.

Scholarship Funding: Education is a cornerstone of our community's future. We need dedicated funds to provide scholarships that help our youth and adult learners pursue higher education, vocational training, and other educational opportunities that will empower them to succeed.

Volunteer Engagement: Our success is driven by the dedication of volunteers who contribute their time and talents. We need individuals willing to assist with community outreach, event planning, mentoring, and providing professional expertise.

Partnerships and Collaborations: Building strong relationships with local businesses, schools, and other organizations enhances our ability to serve the community. We seek partnerships that can provide resources, services, or opportunities that align with our mission.

Advocacy and Awareness: To address the unique challenges our community faces, we need advocates who can help raise awareness, influence policy, and ensure that our voices are heard at the local and national levels.

Capacity Building: As our community grows, so does the need for improved organizational infrastructure. We require resources to develop our leadership, enhance our operational efficiency, and ensure that we can meet the evolving needs of our members.

Cultural Preservation and Education: Preserving our Liberian heritage and educating future generations about our history and culture is vital. We need support for programs that promote cultural awareness, language preservation, and intergenerational learning.

Emergency Relief Fund: To provide timely assistance in critical situations, we need a dedicated fund that can be accessed quickly to support members facing emergencies, such as illness, unemployment, or other crises.

Equity Statement

The Liberian Community Association of DFW is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment where every member is valued and supported. Rooted in our shared history of resilience and mutual aid, we strive to ensure that all individuals, regardless of background, have equal access to opportunities, resources, and support within our community.

We believe in uplifting one another, especially during times of hardship, and we are dedicated to breaking down barriers that prevent any member from achieving their full potential. Our commitment to equity is reflected in our ongoing efforts to address the unique challenges faced by our community, from immigration and education to economic empowerment and social inclusion.

We celebrate our diversity and recognize that our strength lies in our collective efforts. Together, we work towards a future where every member of the Liberian Community Association of DFW feels empowered, supported, and able to thrive.
