$100,000 Goal

Journey to Dream has been committed to facilitating healing and recovery and promoting the social and emotional well-being of youth in Denton, Dallas, and Tarrant, Counties who have experienced maltreatment, violence, and trauma for 20 years. With a reported 2,493 homeless youth in Denton County in January 2016, Journey to Dream serves at-risk, victimized, homeless youth through our Dream Initiative school program and our 24/7 Transitional Teen Shelter. At our juvenile housing campus, Kyles Place, we believe in providing a pathway for homeless youth to navigate life's challenges and find their way to a brighter future. We understand the importance of giving these youth the tools and support they need to succeed.

Kerri, a former teen at Kyles Place, says it best.

"When I was 15, I reluctantly told my parents I was gay, hoping they would understand. The talk ended with my dad threatening me and my mom saying, 'Being gay is a choice.' So, I left home and bounced between friends and other family members until I found Journey to Dream.

Not having my parents affected me more than I understood at the time. I missed a lot, impacting my ability to develop positive relationships and grow mentally and emotionally. Journey to Dream is helping me let go of the constant feeling of shame and disappointment toward my family.

Everyone can get stuck in a negative loop, no matter who they are. My worst fear is that loop. I've seen people stuck in it for their entire lives. It takes a personal decision and dedication to break out of that loop. It gets better, but only if you work to make it better. Journey to Dream helps me to do that."

– Kerri, Journey to Dream Graduate

With your partnership, Journey to Dream and Kyles Place will continue to make a difference in the lives of at-risk, victimized, and homeless youth. We believe in following the path that leads to life, and with your help, we can provide that path for those who need it most.

Because of your partnership, youth in crisis will continue to receive shelter, counseling, and aftercare services in their community. They will have the chance to remain in their local schools and communities. At the same time, we work to strengthen family relationships and, in the absence of family reunification, help to find safe and appropriate alternative living arrangements where they can become self-sufficient, contributing members of society.
