Every milestone Hugs reaches creates a personal milestone for an individual with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
For more than a decade, Hugs has created pathways to employment, training, independence, and belonging for individuals with IDD. Every new program, new location, and new opportunity helps participants discover confidence, purpose, and a brighter future.
Our mission comes to life through four core programs:
- Hugs Cafe – Our flagship employment program where individuals with IDD work in a fast-casual restaurant while earning competitive wages, developing job skills, building confidence, and creating meaningful connections with coworkers and guests.
- Hugs Greenhouse – A vibrant greenhouse and retail space offering paid employment and job training in horticulture, merchandising, customer service, and plant care.
- Hugs Training Academy – A vocational training program that prepares individuals with IDD for careers in hospitality and food service through hands-on instruction, professional development, and job placement assistance.
- Hugs Home Cooking – Monthly cooking classes that help participants strengthen culinary skills, gain independence at home, build friendships, and develop healthy habits.
What began as one small cafe has grown into a network of life-changing opportunities, including a new Hugs Cafe Dallas location, our new National Headquarters location, and the now expanding Hugs Greenhouse. Each milestone means more individuals with IDD gaining employment, building independence, and discovering what's possible.

Mission
The mission of Hugs Cafe Inc. is to enhance the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through training and employment. We envision a world where people are recognized for the things they can do rather than the things they cannot.
Needs
The opening of our new National Headquarters has dramatically expanded our ability to serve individuals with IDD across North Texas. With this growth comes the opportunity and responsibility to serve more individuals through expanded employment, culinary training, workforce development, and community programs.
Our North Texas Giving Day goal is $120,000 to help sustain and grow Hugs Cafe McKinney, Hugs Cafe Dallas, Hugs Greenhouse, Hugs Home Cooking, and our two Hugs Training Academy locations.
Every dollar invested helps create meaningful employment, build independence, and empower more individuals with IDD to reach their next milestone.
