Your journey to healing starts here.

At Helen's Project, we believe healing happens in community — and no one should have to navigate their mental health journey alone. Whether you're seeking support for the first time or continuing the work you've already started, we’re here to walk beside you with care, compassion, and resources that truly make a difference.

We know that taking that first step can be overwhelming. That’s why we’ve built a safe, accessible space where you can find real support, cultural understanding, and the tools you need to move toward a healthier, more empowered life.

Together, we heal.

About Helen’s Project

Helen’s Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming the way mental health care is delivered in BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities.

Founded by Dr. Kayla Mainja, LCSW, PhD — a passionate therapist and mental health advocate — Helen’s Project was born from the urgent need to break down the systemic barriers that make mental health support inaccessible for so many.

Kayla’s vision is rooted in lived experience and a deep belief: that everyone deserves access to affordable, high-quality mental health care, no matter their background or financial situation.

What Makes Us Different

Helen’s Project centers care that is culturally competent, community-driven, and deeply empathetic. Our diverse team of licensed professionals understands the unique challenges that BIPOC individuals face — because representation and cultural understanding matter in healing spaces.

We focus on meeting people where they are, with services that reflect the communities we serve.

Our Core Initiatives

Affordable Counseling Services
We offer low-cost and no-cost therapy options to ensure that mental health care is never out of reach.

Cultural Competency Training
We equip providers, partners, and institutions with tools to serve BIPOC communities with respect, understanding, and equity.

Community Partnerships
We collaborate with schools, organizations, and grassroots leaders to expand access to support where it's needed most.

Why Your Support Matters

When you give to Helen’s Project, you’re doing more than making a donation. You’re helping someone take their first step toward healing. You’re opening doors to therapy, education, empowerment, and hope — for individuals, for families, and for entire communities.

We invite you to stand with us in this mission. Because mental health is not a luxury — it's a right.

Every gift brings us closer to a world where healing is accessible to all.

Mission

WHAT WE AIM TO BE

At Helen`s Project, we envision a world where mental health support is universally accessible and deeply rooted in inclusivity and compassion. Our goal is to break down the barriers that prevent individuals from seeking the help they need, by providing a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone.

Needs

At Helen's Project, our mission is to provide equitable and accessible mental health services to underserved communities, with a focus on the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) community. As we prepare for North Texas Giving Day, we need your help to continue and expand our vital work.

Our Key Needs:

Mental Health Counseling:

Hiring Additional Licensed Mental Health Professionals: To meet the growing demand for culturally competent therapy, we need more licensed professionals. This will reduce wait times and ensure timely, effective support.

Training Programs in Trauma-Informed Care: Continuous training ensures our staff can address complex issues with sensitivity and expertise.

Community Impact:

Expand Accessibility: More therapists mean more appointments and shorter wait times, reaching more individuals in need.

Enhance Quality of Care: Advanced trauma-informed training allows our team to provide more effective and empathetic support.

Cultural Competence: Hiring diverse professionals fosters trust and understanding, crucial for effective mental health treatment.

Why Your Support Matters:

Your contributions on North Texas Giving Day will directly impact our ability to: Hire more therapists, Provide ongoing training, and Enhance the quality and accessibility of our services

Additionally, Helen's Project needs funds to provide mental health treatment to individuals who cannot afford their co-pay or have lost their jobs. Every donation moves us closer to a fully staffed, highly trained team ready to support the mental health of the BIPOC community.

Together, we can create a more equitable and supportive community. Thank you for considering a donation to Helen's Project. Your support is vital to our mission and the well-being of our clients.

Equity Statement

At Helen's Project, we believe in a world where every individual has access to the support and resources they need to thrive, regardless of their background or financial situation. Our mission is to bridge the gap in mental health services, ensuring that underserved communities, especially those within the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities, receive the culturally competent care they deserve.

Through our comprehensive services—including mental health counseling, peer support, housing assistance, and transportation—we are dedicated to creating pathways for healing and growth. We stand firmly against systemic barriers and strive to foster an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

Join us this North Texas Giving Day in supporting our mission to provide equitable, accessible, and compassionate care. Together, we can make a difference and build a healthier, more inclusive community for all.
