ABOUT US

We are committed to nurturing and educating refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood of Dallas. For 25 years, we have been walking alongside these children and families providing academic, social, and emotional support at no cost through our afterschool and summer care programs.

This milestone year is more than an anniversary—it’s a celebration of 25 years of impact. For a quarter of a century, Heart House has empowered children to succeed in school, build resilience, and feel a true sense of belonging in their community.

As we look to the future, we are excited to expand our brand-new Reading Intervention Program and our afterschool program to two sites in Vickery Meadow, serving over 200 students. This growth means even more children will have the opportunity to discover their potential and thrive in a safe, supportive space.

Your support makes this possible. Just as Heart House has been here for children for the last 25 years, you can be part of the next 25, helping us reach more students and create lasting change. Together, we can continue to transform lives, one child at a time.

What We Do

At Heart House, we are an out-of-school-time program dedicated to empowering children through a focus on literacy, social-emotional learning (SEL), and enrichment. Our programs are designed to meet students where they are, providing the support and resources they need to thrive academically and emotionally. Here is a quick breakdown of our programs:

Reading Homeroom – Our daytime reading intervention program, designed to help students strengthen foundational literacy skills, build confidence, and foster a love for reading.

H3 Afterschool Program – A safe, supportive space where students receive homework help, tutoring, language development, and engaging STEAM activities, all while learning important SEL practices.

Read & Grow Summer Program – A summer experience that combines literacy development with hands-on learning and enrichment activities, ensuring students continue to learn, grow, and feel connected during the break.

At the heart of all we do is the belief that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed. Through caring staff, dedicated volunteers, and a holistic approach, we help children discover their strengths, build resilience, and feel a true sense of belonging.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of Heart House is to empower refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children in Vickery Meadow by providing enhanced opportunities for educational equity through literacy and social-emotional learning.

Needs

We seeking funding to expand our Head, Heart, and Hands Afterschool Program and Reading Homeroom literacy program to two sites in Vickery Meadow, reaching over 200 refugee and immigrant students. Your support will not only help us deliver year-round academic, social-emotional, and enrichment programs, but also ensure that every child receives daily meals, school supplies, coats, shoes, and hygiene essentials. Many of our students face significant barriers, and with your investment, we can meet both their educational and basic needs—giving them the tools, stability, and confidence to thrive.

Equity Statement

Heart House is honored to serve all families regardless of race, ethnicity or beliefs. As educators, we continue to hold space for our students to process, ask questions, and have conversations about race, racism, and its history in our country. We hold firm to our commitment to provide safe, trauma informed, and loving care to all our students, regardless of language, immigration status, or race.
