ABOUT US

Heart House Dallas is a non-profit organization committed to providing a nurturing and educational environment for refugee and immigrant children in the Dallas, Vickery Meadow neighborhood. In the 23 years that we have been in operation, we have dedicated ourselves to empowering these children with the tools and resources they need to succeed academically, emotionally, and socially all at no charge to our families through afterschool and summer care programs.

At Heart House, we believe that every child deserves a chance to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. We recognize the unique challenges faced by refugee and immigrant children and strive to create a safe space where they can find support, guidance, and a sense of belonging.

What We Do

We provide a wide range of educational resources, including tutoring, homework assistance, language development, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities.

Beyond academics, we place great importance on emotional well-being. We strongly encourage SEL, or social emotional learning, in our daily routines to help our students understand the power of being in control over their emotions. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work tirelessly to create a nurturing environment where children can express themselves, build positive relationships, and develop crucial life skills.

Giving Activity

Mission

The mission of Heart House is to empower refugee, immigrant, and under-resourced children in Vickery Meadow by providing enhanced opportunities for educational equity through literacy and social-emotional learning.

Needs

Heart House seeks funding for our Head, Heart and Hands Program supporting refugee children year-round in the Vickery Meadow neighborhood. Unlike traditional afterschool programs that focus primarily on academic support, Heart House's Head Heart and Hands program simultaneously addresses a range of needs using evidenced-based and trauma-informed strategies.

Equity Statement

Heart House is honored to serve all families regardless of race, ethnicity or beliefs. As educators, we continue to hold space for our students to process, ask questions, and have conversations about race, racism, and its history in our country. We hold firm to our commitment to provide safe, trauma informed, and loving care to all our students, regardless of language, immigration status, or race.
