$4,000 Goal

We are a small all-breed dog rescue group looking to have a large footprint. With only 3 regular fosters (and occasional help from others), we  fully vetted and found homes for 60 dogs in the last year. We focus on animals found wandering the streets or in outlying shelters. (Local shelters are easily able to adopt out small dogs.) The majority of our dogs come to us from the Rio Grande Valley. To date, our fosters are only able to handle small dog breeds, so we take in a lot of Chihuahua, Dachshund and Terrier mixes. We also foster lots and lots of puppies!

We are especially likely to take in senior dogs and dogs with medical issues: heartworms, seizures, deafness, blindness, and other medical conditions. These are the dogs that need rescue the most. While we are a dog rescue group, we nonetheless find ourselves with needy kittens and cats from time to time. We fully vet them and turn them over to partner cat rescue groups to adopt out.

During Covid, we moved from in-person adoption events to online adoptions, posting on Petfinder and Adopt-a-Pet. As the online venues have been very effective for us (95% of our dogs are adopted within a month), we have stuck with it.

Our Needs

We have no paid employees and we are fortunate to have pet store partners (big shout out to Hollywood Feed!) that donate dog food to us. The incidental expenses are minor and are paid out of adoption fees: leashes/collars, potty pads, pill pockets, etc.  ALL donations go towards medical expenses. Our standard medical treatment includes spay/neuter, all shots, microchip and heartworm testing--and we are even able to fund most of that out of our adoption fees. But we incur a variety of other expenses: Heartworm treatment, seizure treatment and medications, hernia surgery, tumor removal, teeth cleaning and extractions, trap-neuter-release expenses for cats and more. From time to time, we also pay for medical treatment for deserving dog owners who can't afford it. Our current, and constant, need is for funds for medical treatment of our foster animals.

Mission

Happy Dance Dog Rescue (Happy Dance) is a non-profit, all-breed, small dog rescue group operating in the Lewisville-Denton-Flower Mound-Roanoke area. Our primary mission is to rescue dogs, fully vet them, and place them in good homes. Because local shelters are currently able to easily adopt out small dogs, we focus on shelters in outlying areas that have no resources. We provide standard and specialized medical treatment for all animals, including spay/neuter, shots, and microchipping. Happy Dance dogs are housed in foster homes until they are adopted. We are a no-kill group.
