Guiding Mama Bear believes that whole family wellness care should be attainable everywhere - even in rural North Texas. We're breaking down the barriers that force families to choose between quality healthcare and putting food on the table.
Operating in Decatur, TX, primarily in Wise County and extending into Montague and Jack Counties, we provide accessible chiropractic care and birth services where families need them most. For many of our neighbors, we're the closest option for the specialized care their families deserve - otherwise, they're looking at 45+ minute drives each way, multiple times, just to access basic wellness services.
We currently serve over 50 patients with chiropractic care and support 2 births annually through our birth center and home birth services. Our cash-pay model with sliding scale pricing means that Medicaid families automatically qualify for our "pay what you can" tier, and we assess each family's unique situation to ensure care is accessible.
But here's the reality: too many families are falling below even our lowest tier. Families with 3-8 members who have never been able to afford consistent chiropractic care. Pregnant mothers who need lab work, iron transfusions, and postpartum recovery support. Babies who need oral tie revisions but can't access this all-out-of-pocket procedure. These are the families we're called to serve, and right now, we're providing more pro bono care than our current funding can sustain.
Our partnership with Empowered Life Collective enhances our ability to provide comprehensive family wellness services that address both physical and emotional health needs with providers all in one space!
We believe that whole family wellness care should be attainable in rural areas. It is our mission to expand access to chiropractic and other holistic providers in our community to under-served populations including low income individuals, first responders, and assisting the perinatal and pediatric population, who do not have the means for care and birthing services.
When Rural Families Can't Choose Between Rent and Healthcare
September 18, 2025 - Help Us Raise $15,000
In rural North Texas, "just drive to the city" isn't simple advice - it's a luxury many families can't afford. When your closest specialist is 45+ minutes away, that "quick appointment" becomes a half-day commitment with gas, childcare, and lost wages adding up fast.
That's why Guiding Mama Bear exists.
We're the local option families have been waiting for. The place where a mother of five doesn't have to choose which child gets chiropractic care this month. Where pregnant mothers can access quality birth services and postpartum support without the financial stress that often accompanies new life.
Your $15,000 Impact
Every dollar you give on North Texas Giving Day directly funds care for families who need it most:
$15,000 = 3 Complete Birth Experiences
Supporting three mothers through their entire birth journey - prenatal care, delivery, and postpartum recovery including chiropractic care, lactation support, and mental health counseling.
OR
$15,000 = 20 Oral Tie Revision Procedures with pre and post op bodywork
Helping 20 babies (and their exhausted parents) overcome feeding difficulties through procedures that are typically all out-of-pocket and inaccessible to many families in our rural community.
The Families Behind the Numbers
Right now, we're serving over 50 patients with chiropractic care, but we're turning away families who need pro bono services because we simply can't sustain more free care without additional funding. These aren't families looking for handouts - these are hardworking parents, first responders serving our community, and growing families who just need healthcare to be accessible in their own backyard.
Without Guiding Mama Bear, these families would either go without care entirely or face impossible choices about which family member's health takes priority this month.
Why North Texas Giving Day Matters
Your gift on September 18th doesn't just fund procedures - it funds hope. It tells rural families that they matter, that their health matters, and that distance and income don't determine the quality of care their children receive.
Join us in proving that whole family wellness care truly can be attainable everywhere
At Guiding Mama Bear, we believe healthcare equity starts with removing the barriers that prevent families from accessing quality care. As a minority and female-owned organization, we understand firsthand how social and economic barriers can make holistic healthcare feel out of reach, especially for BIPOC families in rural communities.
Our commitment to equity means:
- **Financial Accessibility**: We operate on a sliding scale model where Medicaid patients automatically qualify for our lowest tier, and we assess each family's unique financial situation to ensure care is possible, not just available.
- **Geographic Accessibility**: We serve families across Wise, Montague, and Jack Counties, often being the only local option for specialized chiropractic and birth services that would otherwise require long, costly trips to urban centers.
- **No Insurance Barriers**: Our cash-pay model eliminates insurance gatekeeping, prior authorizations, and coverage denials that often prevent families from accessing the care they need when they need it.
- **Whole Family Care**: We don't make families choose which member gets care. Our model supports treating entire families, recognizing that when one person's health improves, the whole family benefits.
- **Service Without Discrimination**: We serve everyone equally, regardless of background, immigration status, or ability to pay. Quality holistic healthcare should never be determined by zip code or income level.
We recognize that true equity requires ongoing commitment and growth. While we currently provide services in English, we're dedicated to expanding our accessibility as our organization grows, always centering the needs and dignity of the families we serve.
