Located in Sherman, Grand Central Station (GCS) is a hub of support for members of the Grayson County community. Our work is organized into four substantial programs, all of which are offered at no cost to those who need them: 

  1. The Dining Car - Volunteers, led and supported by GCS staff, prepare and serve a hot breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday for anyone in need of a meal (9:00am to 12:45pm). On Saturdays, to-go meals are prepared and distributed beginning at 9:00am. Restrooms, showers, washers and dryers, computers, and advocacy and referral services are also available - all in a clean, comfortable, climate-controlled environment. Approximately 100 to 150 persons are served each day.
  2. Children's Express - Volunteers prepare weekend food supplies for children and deliver to local public schools. GCS anticipates serving over 700 children each week of the 2024-2025 school year.
  3. The Market Depot Food Pantry - Food, clothing, hygiene, and household products are available in the pantry from 1:00 to 4:00pm Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The choice food pantry serves over 100 families each week. 
  4. Grand Central Case Management - This program supports individuals and families in Grayson County by assisting them with resources and applications for needed services. The case management program operates Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.

Volunteer support preparing and serving meals in The Dining Car weekdays and Saturdays throughout the year.

Donations of food, hygiene, and household items. 2025 critical needs include: milk; cereal; sliced cheese; canned tuna and chicken; Spam; single serve Chef Boyardee, macaroni and cheese, granola bars, and cereals; and laundry pods or sheets.

Grayson Grand Central Station (GCS) abides by the following action items to help promote diversity and inclusion in our workplace:

• Pursue cultural competency throughout our organization by creating substantive learning opportunities and formal, transparent policies.

• Generate and aggregate quantitative and qualitative research related to equity to make incremental, measurable progress toward the visibility of our diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts. Once the content is curated, it will be added to our website so others can access it.

• Improve our cultural leadership pipeline by creating and supporting programs and policies that foster leadership that reflects the diversity of American society.

• Pool resources and expand offerings for underrepresented constituents by connecting with other organizations committed to diversity and inclusion efforts.

• Develop and present diversity, inclusion, and equity sessions to provide internal information and resources to members, the community, and the nonprofit industry.

• Develop a system for being more intentional and conscious of bias during the hiring, promotion, or evaluation. Train our hiring team with equitable practices.

• Include a salary range with all public job descriptions.

• Advocate for public and private-sector policy that promotes diversity, inclusion, and equity. Challenge systems and policies that create inequity, oppression, and disparity.
