ENSURING OUR PROTECTORS’ CHILDREN SUCCEED IN COLLEGE, CAREER, AND LIFE

Each day, both in our own communities and around the globe, brave moms and dads risk their lives to keep us safe and free. Our military service members and law enforcement officers deserve our deepest gratitude.  We believe there is no greater way to honor their sacrifice than to help prepare their children for college and a successful future.

  • GI is serving thousands of students and parents in every state as well as in Japan, Korea, Germany, Italy, Guam, and other military installations around the globe.
  • GI works with each branch of the military’s school programs offices to reach families at military installations around the world.
  • GI works directly with all Army special operations units and Navy Special Warfare Teams to enroll children from their commands.

Who we serve – Children in grades 8-12 who have a parent that meets one of the following:

  • A service member or law enforcement officer who died in the line of duty.
  • A wounded, injured, or disabled veteran or law enforcement officer injured in the line of duty.
  • Active-duty members of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, & Coast Guard.
  • Reserve or National Guard members who were activated for active-duty service since 9/11/01 & were deployed to a combat zone.
  • A veteran who was honorably discharged from active duty on or after 9/11/2001.

When a military, veteran, or law enforcement child enrolls in our program, we have an immediate impact on the entire family by helping reduce stress, save time, and save them money. While there are some college scholarship programs for these students, no one else helps ensure that they are being well prepared for college admission, making sound college and career choices, and using their scholarships wisely by taking full advantage of all available financial aid options.

The College Success Academy program includes:

  • Step-by-step guidance on what to do and when to do it--saving valuable time
  • A team of advisors providing advice every step of the way to reduce stress
  • Counseling on careers, colleges, applications, essays, financial aid, scholarships, and more
  • Access to an extensive library of articles and videos on college planning topics
  • Premium test prep for the PSAT, SAT, and ACT
  • Email reminders to keep the family on track

Our results show our success. Over the past five years, 100% of families said they would recommend GI to their friends, 90% of students said their focus on high school classes increased after joining GI, 98% earned admission into one or both of their top two colleges, 97% successfully completed their freshman year in college, and the average financial aid award from the colleges was $22,850.

Our Needs

There are a significant number of military and veteran personnel in the North Texas area, including over 13,000 military service members associated with the units at Naval Air Station, Fort Worth. GI has established relationships with many of the units based in Fort Worth as well as with those at the Grand Prairie Armed Forces Reserve Complex. In addition, we recently expanded our mission to include the children of law enforcement officers who were killed or seriously injured in the line of duty. We would love to be able to enroll every family who contacts us for help.

Mission

Gratitude Initiative (GI) is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit whose mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of our military and law-enforcement families by providing essential education programs and scholarships to help their children succeed in college, career, and in life.

Gratitude Initiative provides the most comprehensive college and career preparatory program available today, free of charge, to the families we serve. The GI College Success Academy program is delivered online to support families wherever they live around the globe. The program is supported by advisors who work directly with each student and family via email, phone, or chat. Our college and career advisors are degreed professionals with extensive experience and training in college and career counseling. The program is open to children in grades 8-11, and GI provides support to each student until they graduate college.

GI's College Success Academy is a full-service college preparatory program that covers all aspects of the high school-to-college transition process, which:

1. Removes the stress of college planning so the family can focus on other pressing matters.

2. Helps bring stability to military families whose frequent moves create educational hardships for the children.

3. Creates a legacy as a college degree not only has an impact on the student but for the entire family for generations to come.
