The Friends of the University Park Public Library was founded in 1992 to establish a public library in the city of University Park. A small group of dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly to raise funds, collect books for circulation and staff a library in temporary spaces until 2011, when a private/public partnership allowed the Library to move into its current home at The Plaza at Preston Center.
To date, the Friends has raised over $2.5 million to fund the Library including 10% of its operating budget. Funds have been used to:

The Friends of the University Park Public Library strives to enhance the mission of the University Park Public Library by raising funds for high-quality materials and services, educational programming and special projects and equipment; hosting community programs and events; and providing trained volunteers.
Our mission is accomplished through fundraising and volunteerism. The Friends raises money through membership, donors, and sponsors. We also collect gently-used books which we resell throughout the year, earning over $200,000 to date which has been contributed directly to the Library. Our organization is made up entirely of volunteers, allowing us to distribute every cent to the Library.
North Texas Giving Day gives the Friends an opportunity to expand our reach and tell our story to the community and beyond. It is a chance to increase our fundraising so that we can continue to support the UP Public Library operations and create exceptional programs that are typically free and open to the public.
