Through donations, sponsorships and volunteers, The Friends organization oversees the maintenance and beautification of the trail, including native landscaping, trail maps, bike racks, benches, water fountains, waste baskets, and public art. We work with the many communities around and impacted by the Santa Fe Trail to discover how the community uses the trail and what changes they would most like to see. Working with the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department, the Park Board, Public Works and other entities, we ensure that community ambitions become reality.
Our Needs
We’re just getting started – your support of our organization to successfully inform and adopt a master plan in 2022 has been critical. In 2024, the citizens of Dallas approve the issuance of a large bond package to support the Parks and Recreation Department – this will allocate $2.25 million dollars to the trail!
As a focus between now and the spring, we want to continue flowering the trail! We have another great opportunity, in late fall, to complete more bulb sections in our Brookside Bridge landscaping plan. Our goal for North Texas Giving Day is to raise $4,500 for this project. These funds will cover the cost of around 4,500 bulbs, plus the labor and soil for planting. What does this mean in basic math??? It means that every dollar you donate equals one bulb planted!!! It’s that simple. If you’ve ever heard the phrase, “Every dollar counts,” that couldn’t be more true than with this fundraising goal.

The Friends of Santa Fe Trail is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for capital improvements, programs and operations related to the Santa Fe Trail, as well as generally supporting and enhancing the trail. The group is committed to preserving the culture of the communities it connects and providing a safe, inviting experience for all users.
