Friends of Oakland Cemetery Dallas began as a Facebook group formed by individuals dedicated to the preservation, restoration, and historical significance of the historic Oakland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Over the past five years, it has evolved into the primary volunteer and fundraising organization supporting the cemetery.

The organization’s mission is to maintain the cemetery grounds, preserve historical headstones, and protect the native Texas pocket prairie located on the property. In January 2025, Friends of Oakland Cemetery Dallas achieved 501(c)(3) nonprofit status, officially establishing it as a recognized foundation. This designation enables the organization to apply for and receive grants and donations to support the long-term care and preservation of one of Dallas’s oldest and most historically significant cemeteries.

Giving Activity

Mission

To ensure the preservation, maintenance and ongoing sustainability of Oakland Cemetery and her natural gifts as an historical asset for the future generations of Dallas, Tx and the citizens of our community.

Needs

Oakland's greatest need is for the funding of the general maintenance of the grounds. From lawn maintenance to equipment repair we are operating at a cost of approximately $120,000.00 a year. We would love to add to that budget money for butification projects on the grounds as well as the restoration of our historic 120 iron fencing and repair to all of our roadways.
