Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary was founded in honor of Carolyn's husband Tom Baker who passed away from Pancreatic Cancer in June 2023. Tom understood her profound love of animals, and wishing only for her happiness, urged her to pursue her dream of starting an animal rescue. In December 2023 the passion project began. The "Flying B" represents Tom watching over us from the heavens.

Mid-Year Statement (as of 06/30/25)

It’s been a tough year in Ellis County. When the SPCA of Texas pulled out (because they could not come to a mutually beneficial agreement with our county), it left unincorporated Ellis County and several towns, comprising 800 square miles, without a shelter resourceGrassroots rescues like ours were left to fill the gap. But even with the odds stacked high, our community showed up. You shared our mission, spread the word, and kept hope alive—for the animals, and for us.

So far this year, our supporters have helped us:

🐾 Rescue 75 animals from the streets, hoarding situations, abandonment, and shelters (a far cry from the almost 200/month that the Ellis County Sheriff's Office delivered to the Ellis County SPCA in 2024)

🐾 Provide vouchers for almost 650 spay and neuter surgeries aimed to reduce the pet overpopulation crisis in our area

🐾 Rehabilitate and rehome 48 dogs into loving families (14 more than we did in all of 2024)

🐾 Transport 17 fully vetted dogs to trusted rescue partners

🐾 Provide basic medical care, found homes or rescue support for 42 "community" animals with 17 more still in the works

🐾 Say YES to support our community rescue and shelter partners with live-saving medical care

But we want to do more. Our goal is to have a public physical space where we can host volunteer days or adoption events the way we want to. That’s why our next big goal is to build a permanent home for the rescue—a place where the community can gather, meet our amazing dogs, and be part of something hopeful.

This vision isn’t just about kennels or walls. It’s about creating a space where compassion grows roots. And we can’t do it without you.

Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary envisions a world where every animal is loved, cherished, and has a forever home. We envision a community where responsible pet ownership is championed, and all animals are valued members of society. Through our relentless dedication to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need, we aspire to inspire empathy, kindness, and respect towards all creatures, creating a brighter future for both animals and humans alike

Mission

Flying B Animal Rescue & Sanctuary rescues and cares for abandoned animals, providing them with love, shelter, and the chance for a new life. Through our dedication and community support, we strive to rehabilitate and rehome these animals, advocating for responsible pet ownership along the way. Together, we're building a future where every animal is valued and cherished

Needs

We’re raising funds to ensure every animal in our care gets the very best—from quality food and vaccinations to vet services, grooming, and enrichment.

Beyond our rescue, we also support community members who find themselves with “accidental” litters by providing free spay/neuter and vaccination clinics. It’s our way of helping to snip the problem in the bud and prevent future suffering.

But here’s the truth: we don’t want to be forced to choose between growing our organization and continuing to subsidize programs like Snip It in the Bud. Both are essential. Animals in our care deserve the best chance, and so does our community.

That’s why our next big dream is to create a permanent home for the rescue—a public space where we can host adoption events, volunteer days, and community gatherings. A place where people can meet our incredible dogs and be part of something hopeful.

This vision isn’t just about buildings or kennels. It’s about creating a space where compassion can take root and grow. And we can’t do it without you.

Equity Statement

At Flying B Rescue, we are deeply committed to serving all members of our community, recognizing that compassion knows no boundaries. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in need, while ensuring that our services are accessible and inclusive to everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic.

We believe that the love and companionship of animals should be available to all, and we strive to break down barriers that may prevent individuals from accessing our resources and support. Whether you are adopting, fostering, volunteering, or seeking assistance, we are here to serve you with kindness and respect.

In our work, we actively challenge biases and inequities, ensuring that our outreach and programs are designed to reach and support diverse communities. We are committed to continuous learning and growth, so that we may better serve our community and promote a culture of empathy, inclusivity, and justice.

Together, we can create a world where both animals and people are treated with the dignity and care they deserve.
