The Fort Worth City Band began in 1960 as the Lions Club Band, organized by members of the 28 Fort Worth Lions Clubs. The inaugural ensemble was conducted by TCU Band Director James A. Jacobsen, and in early 1961 the group gave its first major performance at the Lions Mid-Winter Conference in Denton.  Soon after, the band broadened its role, playing for civic and community functions as well as performing as the Cowboys Band for the Dallas Cowboys. As the band continued to evolve to meet the needs of the day, it became the Metroplex Band, reflecting its growing service to North Texas. Eventually, the City of Fort Worth officially recognized the ensemble as the Fort Worth City Band, the name it proudly carries today. For over six decades, the band has enriched civic life through concerts, parades, cultural celebrations, and going into the public schools to support music education in a variety of ways. Our mission is to 'provide members of the community a place to create and foster their love of music.'  We are a TRUE COMMUNITY BAND!

Mission

Our Mission is to provide members of the community a place to create and foster their love of music. Whether you're an amateur musician looking for a place to fulfill your musical dreams, or a listener seeking a place to enjoy the healing powers of live music, the FWCB is here to serve you!

Needs

To continue our mission, we seek funding for essential costs such as rehearsal space, storage, equipment, new repertoire, and more. Support is also needed for our Young Artist Competition, which awards scholarships and performance opportunities to high school musicians, and our Title I School Project, which offers side-by-side concerts with junior high students. These programs foster musical growth, build future musicians and audiences, and ensure that our nonprofit band continues to enrich Fort Worth’s cultural life.

Equity Statement

Since 1960, the Fort Worth City Band has embraced music as a unifying force, welcoming musicians of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities. As a nonprofit, we ensure our concerts remain free or low-cost, removing barriers so the entire community can experience live music. Our Young Artist Competition expands opportunity by awarding scholarships and giving high school musicians a professional stage. Through our Title I School Project, we bring side-by-side concerts to underserved junior high students, inspiring future performers and audiences. We support other charitable events, like the annual Walk MS, which raises fund to end MS, and the annual National Night Out program which recognizes and celebrates the FW Police and Fire Departments. We believe equity in the arts means access, opportunity, and inspiration for everyone, be they a listener or a performer, while supporting the entire community.
