FEED Oak's goal is to disrupt and eradicate food deserts in southern Dallas with innovative and equitable solutions. We have spent the past six years raising awareness of the deleterious effects of food deserts upon the health of individuals and the health profiles of entire communities. Our current goal is to build a grocery store providing access to quality foods where few options currently exist. It will be paired with a bistro restaurant providing healthy takeout meals, and a commercial kitchen available on an hourly basis to local food entrepreneurs who wish to build viable food businesses. This development, located in an under resourced area of southern Dallas, will serve a community of more than 58,000 residents.
We sponsor two events. The Dallas VegFest is a free, community-based festival featuring experts on nutrition, health and environment. In addition to health, cooking and fitness classes, there is distribution of free, fresh produce. It attracts attendees from all over the D-FW Metroplex, many from the Austin/Hill Country area, and several other states. The Men's Health Conference is a workshop providing helpful education to men of all ethnicities on topics that uniquely affect them. Both events are very successful.
Our Needs
FEED Oak Cliff has begun a capital campaign, and are thus in need of funds to support the development of a community-based grocery store in an under resourced food desert in Oak Cliff. These funds will be used to locate, purchase and develop a location within the 75216 zip code.
Programmatic needs: we seek sponsorship for the 2022 Dallas VegFest, which will be once again held in-person at Kiest Park this year.
