Essential Life Skills Corporation-Life Skills for Teens-Serving the Dallas-Fort Worth community, our nonprofit equips teens with the real-world skills they need to succeed in life. We host free community events taught by entrepreneurs, certified specialists, and professionals who volunteer 100% of their time. Every penny raised goes back into our programs-no salaries, just service to the community. Each event includes free breakfast and lunch so no teen misses out.

Our Courses Include:

  • Credit Education: Taught by a certified credit specialist, this course explains how credit works, how to build it responsibly, and how to avoid the pitfalls that can harm a credit score. Teens learn about interest rates, credit reports, and the long-term impact of financial decisions.
  • Banking & Money Management: From opening a checking account to making sure its's never overdrawn, teens gain hands-on knowledge in personal banking. We walk through our monthly budgeting form, teaching how to prioritize needs (like toilet paper) over wants (like new shoes), and how to track spending to stay financially secure.
  • Job Readiness & Human Resources Skills: Teens practice in mock job interviews, learn how to fill out job applications, prepare professional resumes, and understand what their paycheck will look like-including taxes and deductions. we cover workplace expectations, communication skills, and career planning.
  • Home & Kitchen Safety: This class prepares teens to live safely and independently. Lessons include: 
    • Kitchen safety (no aluminum foil in the microwave, safe food handling, stovetop precautions)
    • Understanding a fuse box-what it is, how to find it, and how to reset it safely
    • Basic home hazard awareness and prevention
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Teens learn hands-on skills to keep them safe and confident on the road, including:
    • How to change a flat tire
    • How to jump start a car battery
    • Basic care and routine maintenance tips
  • Etiquette & Communication: Life isn't just about skills-its about how you present yourself. Teens practice proper handshakes, eye contact, conversation skills, tie-tying, table manners, and respectful social interaction that leaves a positive impression.
  • Fire Safety & Police Awareness: In partnership with local fire and police departments, teens learn:
    • How to prevent and respond to household fires
    • When and how to call emergency services
    • Awareness of laws, personal safety, and responsible community interaction.
  • CPR & Basic First Aid: Students are trained in lifesaving techniques including CPR, wound care, choking response, and recognizing medical emergencies-giving them the confidence to step up in critical moments.

Why we Do It!

We believe every teen should leave home prepared to thrive. Our programs are completely free because we never want cost to be a barrier to learning. Every coach is an experienced professional, passionate about giving back. With your donation, we can expand our reach, offer more courses, and equip more young people with the skills to build successful, independent lives.

Our mission is to empower teens with the essential life skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to thrive as independent, responsible, and successful adults-through free, hands-on, practical skills courses. Empowering teens today for a stronger tomorrow.

Needs

As a 100% volunteer-run nonprofit, every dollar we receive goes directly toward serving teens in our community. To continue offering our programs at no cost, we rely on the generosity of donors to help cover essential expenses, including:

Event supplies: Journals, pens, course materials, and educational handouts for each participant.

Participant shirts: To promote unity, pride, and community connection among students.

Meals: Nutritious breakfast and lunch for every attendee at each event to ensure no teen goes hungry while learning-which we are proud to purchase from locally owned family businesses in the areas we serve.

Venue Costs: Rental fees for safe, accessible community spaces where our programs can take place.

Program Expansion: Funding to host a summer camp that offers extended training and deeper learning experiences for teens.

Special equipment: CPR training supplies, vehicle maintenance tools, and kitchen safety materials.

Your contribution directly provides the tools, space, and nourishment that make our free, hands-on courses possible. With your support, we can continue preparing North Texas teens with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need to build a successful future.
