$10,000 Goal

The NAACP tackles todays toughest challenges in leading the fight to ensure that Black lives are a priority in all spaces. Our legacy of fighting for the future of Blacks is strong and the impact of our work is felt in communities across the U.S.

We work to disrupt inequality, dismantle racism, and accelerate change in key areas including criminal justice, health care, education, climate, and the economy.

Education Innovation:

We advocate for equitable local, state, and federal policies that establish education standards, allocate resources, and set priorities for education and workforce systems.

Every child deserves an opportunity to reach their full potential. But our education systems are collapsing under inequity. and it's mostly because of poverty. Students who experience severe economic obstacles perform worse than students who have access to more wealth.

To bridge these gaps and ensure that all children get a real chance at a fulfilling education, we need to address systemic racism and poverty as tangible barriers to learning and future achievement.

Every Black student deserves access to great teaching, equitable resources, and a safe learning environment from grade school classrooms to college campuses. Black students matter and working on their behalf has never been more urgent.

Mission

Together with more than 2 million activists across the country we work to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination.

To make our vision a reality, we will:

• Ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of all citizens

• Achieve equality of rights and eliminate race prejudice among the citizens of the United States

• Remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes

• Seek enactment and enforcement of federal, state, and local laws securing civil rights

• Inform the public of the adverse effects of racial discrimination and to seek its elimination

• Educate everyone on their constitutional rights and take all lawful action to secure the exercise of those rights, and to take any other lawful action in furtherance of these objectives, consistent with the NAACP's Articles of Incorporation and the NAACP Constitution.

Needs

DFW Metro NAACP supports the Texas cities of Lewisville, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Carrollton and Coppell. Our branch provides support for area youth in the forms of education, resources, mentoring, tutoring and financial support. We provide tools, resources and events that encourage students to explore careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). Our aim is to increase the number of minority students in STEAM programs. Our events include, but not limited to, Annual Hackathon, Robotics Competitions and Student Mentoring & Tutoring by local STEAM professionals. Each of these efforts are funded through the generosity of our members, supporting community and donors.

Equity Statement

Eliminate racial and economic bias

To reform our justice system, we must address the structural inequities that allow people with lower incomes to be penalized in ways that wealthy people aren't. This systematically affects Black communities who continue to be over-policed, surveilled, harshly sentenced, and sent to prison in lieu of access to quality healthcare.
