The First 40 Days

In the hours and days and weeks after a baby is born, a mother's body is still fighting. She is healing, stabilizing, and searching for the care that will carry her through. Research tells us that 1 in 3 mothers experience complications after birth. For Black and Latinx mothers here in North Texas, that risk is even higher, and the window is precious.

Across many of the cultures we serve, including BIPOC communities and so many more, the first 40 days after birth have long been considered sacred. A time when a mother is held and fed and rested and surrounded by her village. At Delighted to Doula, we are that village.

This North Texas Giving Day, we are asking our community to fund The First 40 Days. This is a comprehensive postpartum support journey that wraps every mother we serve in three layers of care, from her front door to our healing center to the broader network of resources that keep her whole.

In-Home Doula Support

For six weeks after birth, our certified postpartum doulas come directly to a mother's home. They provide hands-on care, emotional support, newborn guidance, and a watchful eye for complications that could otherwise send her to the emergency room.

Postpartum Wellness Center

Our community hub offers mothers a place to rest, recover, and reconnect. Through in-person and virtual visits, we provide lactation support, mental health check-ins, and a space designed just for them to breathe and be held.

Parent Wellness Network

We connect every family we serve to a broader web of resources. That means healthcare referrals, education on nutrition, hypertension, diabetes management, and postpartum depression, and follow-up appointments that keep mothers in the care system instead of falling through the cracks.

Together, these three programs form a complete circle of care, from the delivery room to the doorstep to the community, during the window when it matters most. And because The Morris Foundation has committed to match up to $5,000 in donations on Giving Day, every dollar you give reaches twice as far.

Your gift today is someone's village. It is the postpartum doula who shows up on a Tuesday morning when a new mother cannot stop crying and does not know why. It is the warm room where she can rest while someone else holds the baby for an hour. It is the phone call that gets her to a doctor before what could have become an emergency ever does.
