Defenders of Freedom was founded in 2004 by Donna Cranston while her son, Matt, was deployed in Iraq. What began as a grassroots initiative to support deployed service members through care packages quickly evolved into a broader mission. As the organization grew, it began providing critical financial assistance to wounded service members awaiting the start of their benefits. Over time, it became evident that these financial hardships were often symptoms of deeper, unresolved issues—particularly those related to traumatic brain injury (TBI).
Many of the Veterans we serve have not received adequate or effective treatment for their TBI. Defenders of Freedom has funded treatment for over 300 Veterans—and it has been life-changing. These individualized treatment plans are designed based on comprehensive testing and bloodwork, addressing the unique needs of each Veteran. The program spans 10 days and results in measurable improvements in functionality, often leading to a significant reduction in medications. Veterans report dramatic decreases in depression, anxiety, and stress, along with increased clarity, energy, and hope.
Today, nearly 100 Veterans are on our waiting list for treatment. Your generosity directly impacts their lives—providing access to care that restores health, dignity, and purpose.
