Our Story: Rotary Club of Decatur, Texas

At the Rotary Club of Decatur, we believe that real change begins at home. Since 1955, our members have lived out Rotary’s guiding motto—“Service Above Self”—through hands-on service, community partnerships, and heartfelt giving.

We are local leaders, parents, neighbors, and volunteers who come together to serve Wise County and beyond. Whether it's building wheelchair ramps, handing out backpacks, or hosting family events, we are committed to strengthening our community and creating lasting impact.

As part of Rotary International, our work also connects us to a global network of 1.4 million Rotarians working toward a healthier, safer, and more hopeful world.

How We Serve Locally

Here in Wise County, the Decatur Rotary Club leads and supports a wide range of projects that touch lives every day:

•  Texas Ramp Project – We build safe, free wheelchair ramps for elderly and disabled residents so they can stay in their homes and access their communities with dignity.

•  The Dictionary Project – Each year, we gift personal dictionaries to all local third graders, encouraging literacy and a lifelong love of learning.

•  Backpack Blessings & School Supply Drives – We ensure children start the school year with the supplies and confidence they need to succeed.

•  Kids Fishing Derby – A fun-filled day that fosters family connection, outdoor play, and community spirit. 

•  Wise County Spring Event – We partner with other local groups to bring joy, resources, and entertainment to families of all ages.

•  College Scholarships – We invest in our future by awarding scholarships to outstanding local students who demonstrate leadership, service, and academic excellence. 

We also support leadership programs for youth, recognize student achievement throughout the year, and work alongside local nonprofits to meet urgent needs as they arise.

We’re a 100% volunteer-run organization—no paid staff, no overhead. That means every dollar goes straight to service, whether it’s materials for a ramp, a backpack full of supplies, or a scholarship for a graduating senior.

Your gift is not only used wisely—it’s multiplied. Donations are held and managed through the Rotary Foundation, where they are invested for three years. During that time, the funds earn interest, which helps cover administrative costs so that 100% of your original gift goes directly toward service projects. After three years, the funds are released and used in both local and global initiatives, creating lasting, measurable impact.
