Dallas Police Youth Foundation

A nonprofit organization

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) has long and rich history of reaching out and providing meaningful and innovative enrichment opportunities to youth in our city's communities.  These programs are investments in our youth - our future - with is critical to a long-term strategy for a safety Dallas.  The Department is uniquely responsive in that there is no one location where everyone must come to participate, rather programs are held where there is a need throughout the City of Dallas, primarily utilizing Dallas Park and Recreation and similar easy to access facilities with DPD Officers and Professional Staff as the Mentors (and Mentors/Coaches in the case of the Boxing Program).  These enrichment opportunities are not without direct program costs and are not covered by funds allocated to the Department.  The Dallas Police Youth Foundation (DPYF) serves as a bridge between donors in the community and the Department's programs.  Our stated mission is "to support the youth outreach efforts of the Dallas Police Department as they engage and mentor our kids to become future community leaders."

Our Needs

Funding will support the Dallas Police Department's Youth Outreach Unit (YOU) as they interact and mentor Dallas' youth, primarily ages 8-18.  Specifically, DPYF seeks funding to operate mentoring centric Police Activities/ Athletics League (PAL) Programs such as basketball, boxing, horsemanship, and bicycling.  Additional mentoring centric youth outreach programs funded by DPYF and community donations include the Dallas Police Explorer Program, Junior Explorer Program, the Junior Police Academy, and the Blue in the School Program.

The Department sustains by providing employees, vehicles, and hard assets.  It is up to the Dallas Police Youth Foundation to supply the rest, such as registration fees, uniforms, insurance costs, and countless supplies (such as hand wraps, disposable mouthpieces, basketballs, bicycle helmets, Blue in the School handbooks, soccer balls, et al.).  Currently, we have a pressing need to replace a worn-out floor boxing ring in one of the gyms with a ring that is slightly elevated off of the floor.

Mission

The mission of the Dallas Police Youth Foundation is to support the youth outreach efforts of the Dallas Police Department as they engage and mentor our youth to become future community leaders.

Needs

The most pressing need today is a replacement boxing ring for the PAL Boxing Program at Janie C. Turner Recreation Center. Their current ring is a floor ring (pad lies directly on the floor) and although it is only four years old, gets so much use it needs a cover. It is hard to invest the $1000 in a new cover when the floor ring was a temporary solution. The ceiling there is very low, and they desperately need a freestanding floor ring (pad is raised approximately 14 inches off the floor) to the tune of about $9000 plus shipping (but it can be picked up to save the almost $1000 in shipping).
