For 150 years, the Dallas Park and Recreation Department (DPARD) has been creating spaces, experiences, and opportunities that bring people together. From beloved parks and recreation centers to historic landmarks and community programs, the department’s legacy is built on a commitment to enriching lives, strengthening neighborhoods, and connecting generations.
Established in 1876, the park system now encompasses over 21,000 park land acres including 400+ parks, 7 lakes, and over 180+ developed trail miles.
This anniversary is more than a look back in time. It’s a celebration of what we’ve accomplished together and a vision for our future. DPARD continues to set the standard for urban parks and recreation by embracing progress, innovation, sustainability, accessibility, and equity.
Your generous gift will provide dedicated resources for the long-term maintenance, preservation, and improvements in the park system. Join us as we celebrate 150 years of memories made, communities strengthened, and a future built on creating even greater experiences for all. Dallas Park and Recreation Legacy Endowment Fund will create a permanent source of support for Dallas parks and recreation. Contributions to the endowment are intended to build the fund’s principal, or corpus, while investment earnings can be used over time to support future park system needs. Over time, a well-funded endowment will generate income to help address these needs such as facility upgrades, youth scholarships, and innovative community programming in perpetuity.
The Dallas Park and Recreation Department’s mission is to champion lifelong recreation and serve as responsible stewards of the city’s parks, trails, and open spaces.
