The Dallas Genealogical Society is non-profit tax-exempt Section 501(c)(3) organization that provides resources and services of interest to family history researchers in (or with an interest in) Dallas and North Texas. We partner with the Genealogy & History Division of the Dallas Public Library to provide services and educational activities that cultivate and nurture an interest in Family History Research.

Giving Activity

Mission

We are committed to education, service, preservation, and keeping abreast of new developments in genealogical resources, technology, and information providers while pursuing these primary goals:

1. Educate by creating, fostering, and maintaining interest in Genealogy and Family History.

2. Assist and support the Genealogy & History Division of the J. Erik Jonsson Central Library in Dallas, Texas.

3. Collect, preserve, copy, and index information relating to Dallas County and its early history.

Needs

In 2018 the Dallas Genealogical Society donated more than $52,000 to the Genealogy & History Division of the Dallas Public Library to create a Heritage Lab equipped with a high-quality book scanner. The Dallas Public Library is the only institution in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth region that provides public access to a scanner with these capabilities: Countless researchers, students, historians, and other library patrons have used the scanner to digitize and preserve irreplaceable records.

The Dallas Genealogical Society has donated an additional $16,850 to extend the manufacturer’s warranty on the scanner. However, the scanner has now reached the end of its service life: the manufacturer no longer offers warranty support, and the library needs a replacement.

Donations to our 2026 North Texas Giving Day campaign will help fund this replacement, (estimated to cost $32,360) ensuring that this valuable community resource remains available for years to come. Your gift will help preserve the stories, documents, and history that connect generations.

Please help us keep history accessible for everyone.
