$5,000 Goal

In a typical year, our Women’s Philanthropy Institute meets about 10 times and invites female philanthropists to attend Lunch and Learns, Site Visits, a Kickoff Luncheon and Year-End Award Ceremony.  Our “Lunch and Learns” provide an opportunity for members to become educated on how to strategically evaluate a nonprofit, review financial documents and organizational structure, and to hear from a community expert. Our Site Visits to local nonprofits offer a behind the scenes look at our grantees and allow members to better understand the organizations and their mission.

At the end of the year, WPI members vote on which non-profit will receive the lead grant from the Mary M. Jalonick Women’s Philanthropy Institute Fund held at The Dallas Foundation. Grant money is raised through contributions, which is a minimum of $500 per member.

Our Needs

A gift to our Women’s Philanthropy Institute will provide critical support to the following in 2023: The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center, The Ebby House, Frazier Revitalization, and Visiting Nurse Association. In 2022, WPI members granted $300,000 to nonprofit organizations in the greater Dallas community, underscoring the power of collective giving. This year's goal is to raise $350,000 and we appreciate everyone's generosity towards impacting our community.

Mission

The Dallas Foundation established the Women's Philanthropy Institute (WPI) in 2007 in response to an expressed interest by female donors who wanted to learn more about our community and its needs. In 2019, WPI was renamed to The Mary M. Jalonick Women's Philanthropy Institute, in honor of The Foundation's former president and CEO. Jalonick led The Dallas Foundation for three decades before her retirement in 2017. Today, the Institute educates, inspires and empowers women to become confident and engaged donors.
